I'm just going to say it:
Some of the worst advice on endurance training, VO2max, etc. comes from non-endurance fitness influencers
They know enough to be dangerous, but not enough to know they are wrong
You're better off listening to a HS cross-country coach.

I've found general capacity to be easier to build than specific
Multiday and events > 9 hours are general capacity and energy pacing dominated
Important to train the gut for energy uptake

These two athletes were our leaders on and off the track this year. Going to miss Senior Keith Ward. He placed 5th and 6th in the state this weekend in the 100m,200m and is still looking for a school.
Freshman Katie Casto is a diamond in the rough. She is going to lead our team for a number of years. Placed 9th today in the state and was 3rd Freshman!
