The #Coutts4: A Tale of Injustice in Canada's Bail System

Imagine a world where a group of peaceful protesters is denied bail while murderers and violent criminals roam free on the streets. This dystopian scenario might sound like a plot from a twisted sci-fi novel, but it's the harsh reality for the #Coutts4 in Canada.

The #Coutts4, a group of four individuals from the small town of Coutts, Alberta, have been held without bail for over 700 days. Their crime? Daring to stand up for their rights during the Freedom Convoy protests in 2022. Meanwhile, a plethora of murderers and violent offenders have been granted bail and are out on the streets, living their lives as if nothing happened.

Let's take a look at some of these cases:

Umar Zameer, accused of first-degree murder of Toronto Police Constable Jeffrey Northrup, was released on bail.
Marlena Isnardy, charged with the murder of 27-year-old Matthew Cholette in Kelowna, British Columbia, was also released on bail.
Tom Holden, accused of first-degree murder in the case of Lisa Dudley and her boyfriend Guthrie McKay in Mission, British Columbia, was released on bail.

Yet, the #Coutts4 remain behind bars without bail. The Canadian justice system seems to be sending a clear message: "Stand up for your rights, and you'll be treated like a murderer, but if you actually commit murder, you'll be just fine."

This injustice cannot be allowed to continue. It's time for federal and provincial politicians to take a stand and demand an explanation for the treatment of the #Coutts4. We must ask ourselves, is this the kind of Canada we want to live in? A Canada where peaceful protesters are treated worse than murderers?

It's time to demand change. Contact your local representatives and let them know that you won't stand for this blatant disregard for justice. The #Coutts4 deserve better, and so do all Canadians.

Remember, a government that denies the rights of its citizens is no government at all.
