@owenbroadcast No, this is for counterpoint specifically, because it is essentially a voice count reduction. Power chords aren't used for trying to convey multiple voices; they're an expression of a single voice.
@MeltingSnowBro It's because the cards are made for children, and they're trying not to price out the children that it's made for. So supply and demand doesn't get to organically reach price equilibrium, because most of this demand is coming from adults outside of the intended audience
There is an ocean of context required for me to understand this insult.
Though I am humbled by the amount there is to learn in this world, I intend to use this insult daily.
@The_Epic_Mike On what grounds are you claiming this to be true?
I've worked with a fuckload of writers in games and I can't think of a single one who wasn't gaming-first.
@GreenTextRepost I live half time in both places and whenever I get to Japan I lose 10 lbs immediately.
I used to think it was some conspiracy bullshit but, I'm convinced: Americans are fed poison
@Liathetrader Everyone is focused on the delivery fee, but I would absolutely verify that in-app prices are the same as in-store prices (they often are sold at a premium in-app)
@valigo You're missing a key part, which is that if the project is not self-funded (most are not), you are working on borrowed money. A US game studio doesn't need to sell 3x more copies; it needs to be 3x better at convincing investment.
@tanpukunokami I've been a PC power user for decades. But Windows has gotten so terrible and anti-consumer that recently I got a Macbook Air, and I've been very impressed. I'm no Mac fan, but it's less bad than Windows at this point and they make the only high quality laptop hardware anymore
@cmallios89@dxgl_org@WindowsLatest I don't disagree with any of that. Modern Windows has terrible performance and does a great job ostracizing power users. Run is only a micro-example of poor mindset that I think has lead to the rest.
You're arguing in support of frameworks and languages as excuses for performance.
I don't know how else to say that this isn't my problem. As a user am I expected to forgive awful performance because Microsoft decided they needed to use X, Y, or Z? Or is the burden on the developer to choose the right tools to give us users acceptable performance from what are essentially household supercomputers? ๐คฃ
This framework-first mindset that you're suggesting is exactly why most modern software (including and especially Windows) is only getting more terrible, instead of building *actually* performance first.
@GigaBasedDad You know Phillips was designed with the ability to easily strip and prevent over-torqing in mind, right? Torq is much better for most serious uses.
@dxgl_org@cmallios89@WindowsLatest What it also proves is that if Microsoft actually coded with "perf top-of-mind" they absolutely could. They could write it next-frame every time.
But they don't and instead we have to live with 94ms slop for the most basic functionality and Copilot in MS Paint.
Compilers are some of the longest-studied and programmed softwares. They are specifically designed, purpose-built and exceptionally tested. Most of all, they are deterministic.
Using the magic incantation box that sometimes tells you to bleach your pizza is not the same.
