Really excited to share: our research on the hidden world inside living trees now available as a preprint! 🌳🔬🦠🧬Did you know trees, like humans, have their own microbiomes? We explore the unique bacteria, fungi, and archaea living inside trees. 🧵👇 https://t.co/hx64tyx10x
New year, new preprint! I’m excited to share this work with @nahpo, Lindsey Adams, Abigail Li, and @jennymbhatnagar, "Microbial functional guilds and genes are key to explaining soil nutrient cycling alongside soil and plant variables": https://t.co/QDLeq1s0rz
Move over mitochondria, a new organelle called the nitroplast is here.
In a Science study from earlier this year, researchers report that a nitrogen-fixing organelle has been identified in a marine alga. Learn more in this #SciencePerspective: https://t.co/N2XWT32koR
Job alert! I'm looking for a new research assistant (2 yr initial funding) to supports lots of different #soilhealth and #soilcarbon projects at @WoodwellClimate. Please retweet (repost).

Out today: belowground responses of AM and EM trees differ in response to soil warming! We measured root exploration, exudation, and symbiosis and found that EM trees adjust their root strategies under warming while AM trees maintain them

So excited to see this out! Aerated environments can be major sources of methane. This is due to the activities of aerotolerant methanogens. In the process, we show unexpected feedbacks between pollution and climate change. @ning_hall@MBiogeochem https://t.co/IZKdZqSY4x
What determines transfer of carbon from plants to mycorrhizal fungi? For the past 2 years, we debated this question. And I mean debated. https://t.co/DbFicSityY #TansleyReview@NewPhyt 1/n
@JosephTumber Don’t like single timer approach for reasons folks have said, but: multiple (3-5) rounds of X min picking per sample, weigh after each round, fit curve to mass picked vs. time, find asymptote for total mass. But, takes a long time, and probably hard to calibrate between pickers.
So pleased to share this paper that is now out in Nature Ecology & Evolution synthesizing 16 years of data from our Soil Warming x Nitrogen Addition study @HarvardForest: https://t.co/sMTKlI7VkP @unhresearch@sgrandysoil@SoilBioME
Hey All, We are building a Job Board Resource for the @ESALatAmCarib and broader ecological community.

New Paper Alert🚨
We identify a potential driver of site fidelity: the biogeochemical boomerang. By simulating caribou calving, we found that animals concentrate nutrient-rich waste when they exhibit site fidelity, which boosts forage quality, possibly reinforcing their return.
Love #BEF, #EcosystemEcology, and #NFixation?! This paper has it all!
We show that a higher diversity of rhizobia in the soil can dramatically increase SNF. BEF within individual mutualism hosts! I learned so much working on this with @drkimkomatsu

@GauciGauci@ymalhi@ecioxford This is such exciting work, and I’m especially amazed at the effort on the TLS side! We’ve been thinking about tree surface area and are working with some mangrove and temperate forest TLS data here, and would love to connect about this!
Very happy to share our latest discovery "Global atmospheric methane uptake by upland tree woody surfaces" from the pages of @Nature. To summarise, upland trees are better for climate than we thought and are a new sink term in the methane budget.
