It was a pleasure to host Secretary of State for Business and Trade, @PeterKyle MP, on site in Birmingham earlier this week.
He saw first-hand how infrastructure investment is delivering for the West Midlands – creating thousands of jobs and unlocking new commercial and residential development.
HS2 is also building local skills:
🧍12,535 West Midlands residents are now employed on the programme, including
🎓740 apprentices and
👷1,936 people who have moved into jobs after a period of unemployment.

I will work relentlessly with our fantastic metro mayors, our friends in devolved governments and our investment partners in the UK and overseas to end this era of low growth.
Thank you, Birmingham, for having me today at the Regional Investment Summit.
The first episode of the new NE Roots Podcast ‘The Last Miner’ is now available on Spotify. Made possible by @HeadlinersUK and the Heritage Lottery Fund, the episode sees young people explore the industrial heritage of Tanfield Lea and Stanley – you can listen here: https://t.co/GW8fswNTVo
Have to say well done to @bhx_official for getting it’s sh*t together. Last few times flying early morning, only taking 15 mins to get through and no huge queues, it just flows. Also security / airport staff really proactive and friendly. Just need more seating. #BHX#Birmingham
Quite something to recall that autumn relaunch
Canned hs2 p2 against wishes of Andy Street, Conservative with the biggest personal mandate in the UK.
To replace with promised funding for local projects across English council areas…
- WM looks lost
- half council seats lost
This not the IRA. It is dissident Republicans who have never supported the peace process. The @Telegraph should not make this kind of fundamental error.
Big noise about @BorisJohnson coming back from holiday in the Caribbean to compete for the Tory leadership but, voters in Uxbridge will want to know, why wasn’t he doing the job he is paid for, representing their interests in Parliament? As he showed during Covid, he is a waster.
Have to say well done to @LeShuttle for our crossing on Wednesday PM. Luckily there was NO traffic in Folkestone. Perfect crossing and on a train 2 hours early - as we got there early after news carnage last week.
#RememberingLyra Headliners is today remembering Lyra McKee - our Trustee and friend of Headliners. Today marks three years since she was murdered in Derry, Northern Ireland. Lyra was a brilliant, talented journalist who was such an advocate of young people. #neverforget
