.@Sec_Noem has forfeited her right to lead. I'm calling on her to resign.
Gregory Bovino must also be fired.
No one, not an ICE agent, not a federal officer, not a president, is above the law.
The killing of Alex Pretti is a heartbreaking tragedy. It should also be a wake-up call to every American, regardless of party, that many of our core values as a nation are increasingly under assault.
Carney: "American hegemony in particular helped provide public goods, open sea lanes, a stable financial system, collective security ... this bargain no longer works. Let me be direct. We are in the midst of a rupture, not a transition ... recently, great powers have begun using economic integration as a weapon. Tariffs as leverage ... "
@alphacolin@CustomerIO You earned that trust, and I have no doubt you would have made your way regardless. But as a friend, I'm grateful that our paths intersected then and for whatever support I was able to offer in the early days of the journey. It's been a fun one to witness and cheer on from afar!
a few days ago brian kilmeade said homeless people should be executed. jesse waters accused the left of trying to start a civil war. fox news spent years telling verifiable lies about dominion and the 2020 election.
canceling jimmy kimmel isn’t about an offensive line in a monologue. it’s about wielding state power to silence political opposition.
It’s happening. The takedown of Jimmy Kimmel is likely the start of a campaign to use the murder of Charlie Kirk as a pretext to use the power of the White House to wipe out Trump’s critics and his political opponents.
But we aren’t powerless. We can mobilize and organize. Now.
In the last few years we've seen:
- The plot to kidnap Gretchen Whitmer
- The Storming of the Capitol and pipe bombs left at the RNC and DNC
- The break-in to kidnap Nancy Pelosi and the brutal on Paul Pelosi
- Multiple assassination attempts against Trump
- The assassination of Minnesota House Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband and the shooting of on State Senator John Hoffman and his wife
- Luigi Mangione's assassination of Brian Thompson
- The assassination of Charlie Kirk
Political violence is contagious. It is spreading. It is not confined to one side or belief system. It should terrify us all.
The foundation of a free society is the ability to participate in it without fear of violence. Political violence is always an attack against us all. You have to be so blind not to see that.
Many don’t realize that the first people Hitler sent to his concentration camps weren’t everyday Jewish citizens, but his political opponents. So, when Trump rants about retribution, locking up his opponents, and giving them “very long sentences,” I can’t help but take him seriously… because history teaches us that is what fascist dictators do during their “Day One” period to consolidate their power. (After all, if you’re hellbent on staying in power but aren’t likely to win the next election, you can’t have your political opponents running around free.)
To keep fascism out of our lives, vote for democracy!
Confirmation from Robert Kagan, the editor-at-large who resigned over the decision, and why it matters. Free speech and democracy are very much on the line. To see where this path leads, one need only look to the authoritarian regimes further down it. https://t.co/7QBWpspLk7
Indeed, and seemingly at the direction of Bezos himself. Between this and Musk's own 🍊-pilling, it's quite the shameful display for billionaire tech leaders. Thank goodness for... Bill Gates? Think what you want of KH or the Dems, but know that Trump's only interest is himself.
On political endorsement https://t.co/e5OTZhylIE
This is cowardice, with democracy as its casualty. @realdonaldtrump will see this as an invitation to further intimidate owner @jeffbezos (and others). Disturbing spinelessness at an institution famed for courage.
@spartanwanderer Sounds good. I have work commitments starting around 3:30, but anytime before then should be fine.
And re: habitus, it *is* a great spot! I’ve been twice today already, and was planning to hit it again before departing. 😅
@spartanwanderer Tuesday works! Could do any time in the morning through early afternoon. Let me know what works for you, and if you have thoughts on a place. I’m staying in Mejtas.
@spartanwanderer Made it to Sarajevo a few days ago by bus along the usual route. Seems the main road is mostly back to normal. Enjoying the vibe of the city and here for another few days in case you’d like to grab coffee and share travel stories.
@spartanwanderer Very helpful. Thank you! I'll be arriving by bus from Dubrovnik, so it should be easy enough to inquire then. But as you say, even securing a ticket might be a challenge with so many locals also impacted. I guess we'll see. 😅 Perhaps a one-way car rental could be an alternative?
