Happy #WorldEnvironmentDay! ๐๐ฑ We are lucky at #UBCForestry to be able to work in so many different environments due to those who cared for the land before us.

Last night, we kicked off the #WildfireSymposium in Kelowna! @LoriDanielsUBC, @matbourbonnais, Joe Gilchrist, Dr. Hessberg, and @jasonbrolund shared insights on coexisting with wildfires.
Looking forward to 2 days of discussion and wildfire solutions!

@KevinLimOnAir Amazing to see the #WallofExcellence project come to life after working with @geebryan's initial vision for it almost 5 years ago in 2018 (maybe even 2017?) and couldn't have thought of a better recipient than yourself with enormous contributions in the community. Congrats!
Decades ago we thought the Rodney King footage would change everything.
Then the murder of George Floyd shook us to our core.
We were promised change.
Yet, here we are, grieving the inhumanity experienced by Tyre Nichols.
I stand with Tyre's family and all who seek justice.
Vietnam offers a really intriguing vision of what our future cities can look like that's not often considered in the west: colorful, vibrant, full of character, dominated by two wheels (just substitute gas powered motorbikes with electric ones & e-bikes!), and yes, a bit chaotic!
Over the PA on @BCFerries tonight, out of nowhere:
โA generous man has just offered to pay for every kidโs ice cream โ so free ice cream in the cafeteria for anyone under 16โ
The joy on the kidsโ faces as they run down the boat. The world needs more of these gestures ๐ฅนโค๏ธ
If all our students submit their work using ChatGPT (and other AI apps), while we (as faculty) use automatic assessment marking, does that mean we can all just go outside and play, learn and create like we're supposed to in higher education, and let the machines fight it out?
Had a great time conducting a site visit on the unique connected community of South False Creek. The existing planning in place fosters community connections all the way to a micro scale, allowing neighbours to work together.
Rather than constantly trying to identify catchy numbers - we need real strategies.
I'd be much happier to see if we can commit to new regulations or strategic plans to ensure we can increase canopy cover in a sustainable manner, and one that serves all community members.
Ken Sim's ABC Vancouver party is promising to plant 100,000 additional trees across the city, specifically targeting areas that have fewer trees.
This is on top of existing planting goals.
The effort would be carried out over four years. #vanpoli#vanre

What if we can show the ridiculous amount of space and disciplining required for car traffic in our cities?

@SallyNAitken Thanks Dr. Aitken. Your approach to teaching FRST 210 this term allowed for a flexible, yet challenging (in a good way) experience
Even though I was recovering from COVID, the flexibility provided allowed for a low-stress environment where I was focused on learning.
