@BladerLBM@1PvCPU@tertle950@TiredKomeiji I think "warpless" Mario is the best way to enjoy its challenges but at the same time, warping is equally valid and it's fair to critique the game strictly on that basis, even if it might be missing the point in some respects.
@BladerLBM@1PvCPU@tertle950@TiredKomeiji Miyamoto's origins as a toy designer shine through. Even early Mario games are playful first, challenging only as a secondary concern. Warps let you get back to your favorite parts quickly, in games that lacked save batteries. The win screen is more a prompt for play than a goal.
@joniniplo@trois776 This actually exists in 2D.
There's a romhack of FF4 that basically ports the FF2 characters, story, and music into the FF4 engine: Final Fantasy C2.
"Don't go to that restaurant -- they put Capri Sun in their wine" is a reasonable position for somebody who cares about wine, even if the Capri Sun is not compulsory. 5/end
Somewhat tangential, but I think games that say no to being played wrong breed better players, which matters for the health of a genre, for games discourse, etc. We all form overlapping subcultural feedback loops together, and better players are a prereq for better art. 1/n
maybe the worst arcadehead core belief is that depth only matters if you’re punished for not noticing it
“it’s not actually good because i can miss the point entirely”—bizarrely idiot-centric artistic movement
A sommelier who says no when you ask for a Capri Sun to mix into your pinot noir is in the right. You may not be in the wrong (it's your tongue, man), but the sommelier is serving not just a customer or restaurant but an enduring tradition. 4/n
@natisneato People can produce interesting results when they push their singular POV as far as they can, whether as creators or critics, so I'm glad there are people like that. But when it comes to my own taste I am inconsistent and embrace it.
@manonwheels@St1ka If your lens for evaluating old games is nostalgia, that's fine, but then I don't know what you expect St1ka to be able to say that you would even be open to hearing.
Modern publishers and gamers unfortunately deserve each other. Gamers yearn to have all edges sanded off, and publishers are only too happy to provide that to as many of them as possible.
Puta que pariu!! Fizeram um mod pro RE5 onde a movimentação é livre igual nos RE atuais. Agora é possível andar e atirar, e se movimentar livremente em 360°. Muito foda!
Vou rejogar com certeza!!
@BladerLBM@afterdarknimho1 Different to somebody not locked into that context. In other words even e.g. diehard Just Cause fans should be able to appreciate your point, without forsaking Just Cause.
@BladerLBM@afterdarknimho1 You don't even have to dislike imbalance so much as see that it serves a different and incompatible goal than balance. Possible to value both separately and still see the problem of indiscriminately mixing them.
