Iran has carried out at least 916 executions since the start of 2026, including 15 so far in August, the Abdorrahman Boroumand Center for Human Rights in Iran said on Tuesday.

The actual number of executions was likely much higher because Iranian authorities withhold information about many cases, the US-based rights group said.

It said many protesters were also facing charges that could carry the death penalty and criticized their trials as rushed and lacking due process.

The center said Iranian authorities were using death sentences and executions to intimidate the public and deter further protests.
