Christians used to choose to be fed to wild beasts over burning a stick of incense to the emperor.
Now they are no longer sure if it's acceptable to attend a same-sex wedding.
I'm in a Moscow Kinda Mood. Thanks for years of faithful service @douglaswils, @CrossPolitic, @canonpress, and everyone else who sets the Mood™.
@PauleyMo67 absolutely kills it on vocals for this one! No, this is not actually Billy Joel, folks.
Since there’s a bunch of people scrutinizing the Wilsons and our community since we believe in judicious spanking like the Bible teaches, I thought I would share one of the things Pastor Wilson teaches regularly: the goal of parenting is not to get kids to submit to the standard. The goal of parenting is to get kids to *love* the standard. Dt. 6 says that’s the goal: love God with all you are and teach your children to do the same.
And get this: one of the things Pastor Wilson also teaches is that if your kids aren’t loving the standard, you should LOWER the standard. It’s better to live in a happy house with Christian fellowship that’s a little looser with certain standards than an ultra strict house where everyone is seething with critical spirits and resentment.
Obviously we aren’t free to set aside God’s standards, but there are lots of household rules that can and might need to be relaxed in order to be obedient to the weightier matters of the law like love, joy, and peace.
Speaking of which, sometimes you need to drill down on one of those weightier matters, while letting some of the lesser things go (eg. putting clothes away, eating veggies, etc). But when you focus on the weightier matters (eg. joy, gratitude, etc), you find the other things often come along on their own (and a lot easier).
Lowering standards?? Clearly the telltales signs of a cult. Ha.
How do you know if God is with you?
One sign of His blessing is that He gives you lots of work to do. Joseph is a good example of this truth. Genesis repeatedly says, “The Lord was with Joseph.”
This is demonstrated on three different occasions by Joseph’s workload increasing. He becomes an overseer in Potiphar’s house (39:4). He becomes an assistant to the jailer (39:22). And he becomes a governor of Egypt directly underneath the Pharaoh (41:40).
It should also be noted that Joseph was a number two. He always served a master. And he always had work to do.
If the Lord is with you, you will be blessed with plenty of work.
I think it’s crazy that an 18-year-old kid’s vote counts as much as a 45-year-old’s with three kids and a mortgage.
18-year-olds generally have no land, no homeownership, no kids, no real stake in this nation whatsoever. If they’ve been living on their own and taking care of themselves at all prior to voting for the first time, it’s generally been for a mere matter of months. They typically don’t have any understanding of what it takes to live and work in America.
What do you think?
Rich Men North of Richmond has been uploaded to all major streaming platforms and will show up there in a few days.
Im still in a state of shock at the outpouring of love I've seen in the comments, messages and emails. I'm working to respond to everyone as quickly as possible.
So many notable pastors/leaders have one common denominator:
An adult child who is LGBT, publicly blaspheming, or committed suicide.
Hard to right the Evangelical ship with Eli at the helm. If only the Church loved these men enough to ask them to step down.
But you wilt sin and grief destroy;
That so the broken bones may joy,
And tune together in a well-set song,
Full of his praises,
Who dead men raises
Fractures well cured make us more strong.
