Governor Umaru Bago(@HonBago) Fulfilling Pledge to Empower 75,545 Women Through Nigeria for Women Project.
Sequel to the pledge made by Governor Umaru Bago to empower women through grassroots development during his meeting earlier this year with Hazaka Women Affinity Group in Tufa community, Gurara Local Government Area.
The governor has allocated a N1 billion matching grant to the Nigeria for Women Project (NFWP), a World Bank initiative to enhance the livelihood of women in the state.
The governor's action has facilitated the construction of 41 collective centers across Gurara, Agaie, and Wushishi local government areas. These centers are designed to benefit 75,541 registered members of various affinity groups. Specifically, 32 of the centers are rice processing mills, while the remaining include 8 groundnut processing centers and one shea butter center.
Currently, the construction of some of these centers is nearing completion while others are at an advanced stage. Once completed, they will be handed over to the groups with additional operating costs to ensure smooth operations. The governor has also mandated the Ministries of Education and Humanitarian Affairs to purchase the products processed by these centers for school feeding programs and other humanitarian services.
The move by the State Government in conjunction with the World Bank will bring about unity of purpose among the women, make them socially and economically viable and independent, support their various households, bring about food security, as well as encourage the formation of cooperatives and thrift among them.
To ensure the timely completion of the project, the Deputy Chief of Staff to the Governor, Mr. Sadiq Yusuf and the state project coordinator, Bello Sarki, inspected the ongoing construction in the local government areas. The grand launch of the project is scheduled for the end of July.

You may recall that during our regular project inspection last month, I mentioned that we plan to resume freight services on the old narrow gauge rail line from Lagos to Kano in June after completing rehabilitation.
Recently, we conducted a trial run moving import containers from Apapa Port in Lagos to Dala Inland Dry Port in Kano, and we successfully transported numerous 40 ft containers from Lagos to Kano in just a few days.
This freight rail line testing, spanning a distance of 1132 kilometers, had approximately five locomotive driver changing stations at Ibadan, Offa, Mokwa, Minna, and Kaduna Junction. Through the Nigerian Railway Corporation @info_NRC , we have implemented a regular inspection mechanism to prevent potential vandalism of rail tracks, including the removal of clips and fish plates.
I am delighted to announce to Nigerians that today 6th June 2024, the Federal Government led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu @officialABAT GCFR will be officially launching the reopening of this corridor for freight. This significant railway route will create numerous opportunities for businesses and facilitate the movement of import and export goods between these crucial regions in the country. It is our intention that this railway service will facilitate the transportation of a substantial number of import and export containers, leading to improvements in transportation services, a decrease in road traffic accidents, lower costs of goods, and a boost to our Gross Domestic Product.
Our dedication to the continuation and successful conclusion of current projects is guided by the principles outlined in the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR. The President has consistently demonstrated his commitment to providing assistance and support for any initiatives that aim to improve the transportation sector in the country.
We are confident that if future governments adopt the same forward-thinking political dedication shown by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, we can realize the Nigeria we aspire to.

This young Kano lad, Khalifa Aminu, has invented a device that would help blind people to walk without using sticks. It is claimed that the device is the first of its kind in the world. This is terrific.
