A free weekend of #citywalks sponsored by @JDA_SouthAfrica that encourages Joburgers to get out, explore the city, stimulate dialogue & connect with neighbours
What now?
Due to the pandemic of COVID 19, the Jozi Walks – May 2020 has been put on hold. We will reconvene after the nationwide lockdown to assess a way forward for the annual event.
Until then, stay home and stay safe everybody!
The Maboneng Township Arts Experience team led an engaging #JoziWalks through one of Jhb’s iconic townships, Alexandra. Walkers explored the Alex Shopping Centre, Creative District & the Alex Heritage Precinct. @CoJDevPlanning MMC, Cllr @reuben_masango, took part in this walk.
Writer Cheche Selepe took his guests around to the homes of anti-apartheid veteran Andrew Mlangeni and jazz legend Thandi Klaasen, among others, as well as a tour of heritage sites in Dube and Orlando West to celebrate retired nurses and their role in the community.

Next up is the team from Noordgesig. Noordgesig (meaning ‘northview’ or ‘northfacing’ in Afrikaans) was formally established in 1940 on the farm Diepkloof, and is affectionately known as "Bulte" by its residents.

Flo Bird from the Friends of Johannesburg Cemeteries took Jozi residents through the Braamfontein Cemetery to uncover the city’s oldest cemetery, its heritage and visit the graves of heroic figures.

Rees from the Joburg Fashion District speaks on the walk they hosted as part of the #JoziWalks2019.
The area was developed by @JDA about 10 years ago and boasts more than 300 fashion-related micro-businesses, with seamstresses and tailors from across southern Africa.

This is a big claim but today’s Literary District #JoziWalks2019 is the most fascinating one I’ve been on. Who knew books had such a vibrant, ENORMOUS, subculture in the inner city. I know people like books but on this scale - YOH! Seems I still got a lot more #findingjozi to do!
