@jtcoaching@craigmstewart Good point!
Baseline entry and the success from the pullback is definitely one of the concepts which is space constrained and would make more sense on the RH baseline.
Whereas any circle entry potentially gives the opportunity to win a PC.
Loved this graphic and thought I would have a go at applying this specifically to a hockey context.
Open to feedback or discussion about the particular structure / principles / language / terminology...
@ManiKochar@jtcoaching Completely agree and I guess there is a balance to be struck. Providing information about potential options in different pitch zones, whilst leaving players to make decisions.
'Create 1v1' could be rephrased to focus on providing opportunities to eliminate def for circle entry
Looking ahead to this weeks coaching theme - Variety in Goalscoring.
What are you able to notice from this graphic representation of the womenโs Pro League goals?
Consider the relationship between circle position & shot success %
Four teaching practices that coaches would do well to master:
1. Manage the amount of information players attend to
2. Regulate the difficulty of information players attend to
3. Direct playersโ attention
4. Streamline communication
These practices improve capacity to learn!
Motivation is contagious.
Sitting within 25 feet of a high performer at work improved an employeeโs performance by 15 percent. But sitting within 25 feet of a low performer hurt their performance by 30 percent.

Ethical behavior, happiness & even our physical health can all be influenced by those surrounding us.
Good vibes are contagious
My favorite example comes from baseball. Where one player boosted the performance of everyone around him

Kids are the best form of feedback, I learnt a lesson about language this week with the year 3s. โGo and grab a stick...โ 3 of the 17 kids return with a stick from the school garden rather than a hockey stick. Coaching is the best job!
Enjoying delivering weekly cricket sessions at three primary schools in partnership with @SettleCC. Still remember doing this when I was at school.
A key reason why this weekends 3 @SettleCC senior teams contain 25 players have come through junior cricket at the club.
Since the small clip of Arthur Van Doren's 75m pass made the rounds, I watched the EHL final a third time and focused on @ArthurVDoren specifically. These are his best bits.
From one game.
Best bits.
And it's still over 2 minutes long.

Interesting statistic to consider coming out of lockdown 3.
Personally when designing sessions after lockdown Iโm going to make sure to allow more time for socialising - some low intensity small group work which allows conversation.
Data suggests that children (7-16yrs) are feeling less confident and competent with regards to their attitude towards sport and physical activity. This is an important starting point for coaches as we return to play. It may be a factor in why some kids donโt restart... 1/2
"Uncovering personal narratives of players can inform & support how you coach them. The route to understanding their personal narrative is using empathy & the key skill is questioning. Asking questions can start the process of understanding who you coach"

Enjoying running to podcasts lately and wanted to share a key personal takeaway each week.
Given its #TimeToTalkDay, from the Lily Brazel - Left Field Thinking episode:
- Being mindful of how coach-player interactions/relationships can affect players mentally & psychologically
