Acting president BC Association of Radiation Oncology. Communications chair @CARO_ACRO_CA. Dual certified rad onc & palliative care physician. Views my own.
@ParikhSimul We do not require patients to sign any consent form at @BCCancer . It was a bit unnerving for me at first, and I wonder if it will change when we move to a new EMR, but it's a reminder that consent is a process and discussion etc, and not a piece of paper. It's on me to document
#COSMOnc@subatomicdoc describes his approach to "Legacy Tweeting" - What is left behind on Twitter should be honest and representative (and maybe not frivolous!). "Content of my character is in the characters of my content."
Just learned that #AYACSM stands for "adolescent and young adult *cancer societal movement*" from co-founder @EK_Drake at #COSMOnc and I really love it. That much more powerful than when I thought SM was for social media here!
@ShaunaRadOnc@ClevelandClinic In Canada, all residents in a province are under a collective agreement. I just looked @ResidentDocsBC: 17 wks paid at 90% for birth mom, though they can take up to 78 weeks total - EI benefits ($595 or $357/wk) and extended health/dental coverage continue

Radiation oncologists took part in Holocaust persecution, forced sterilization, and medical experiments. Commemoration of the past can be a powerful tool for self-reflection, ethics, & compassion.
Dr. Eckert et al write so well here: #radonc#YomHaShoah

Today we remember the victims of the Holocaust & study its systematic evil. We must also learn that in a struggle between the powerless and the overwhelmingly powerful, "indifference is a death sentence. The bystander is also an enabler."-Michael Berenbaum https://t.co/la99VNqz4d
Today is Yom HaShoah - we remember >6M souls with name and last name: each individual is an entire world.
Conscious memory helps reaffirm our collective commitment to create a more compassionate, connected and caring future.

#COSMOnc Panel (paraphrasing @DeannaTeoh): Acknowledging controversy in the data and clinical practice is respectful to patients and invites their participation in health care decisionmaking
@womenofteal@DeannaTeoh International as well! No question that my patients and I have benefited by access and awareness of a broad perspective on cancer treatment and practices.
It's not too often that we can talk about #oncology, #socialmedia, #DrFauci, @llcoolj & patient engagement all in the same breath, but here's the example I mentioned during the #COSMO21 session just now - frank talk by Dr. Fauci on the #COVID19 vaccine and distribution. #COSMOnc
Thank you @APDicker@subatomicdoc and the #COSMOnc#COSMO21 panel for talking about when it's necessary to take a break from #SoMe for self care. Unexpectedly resonated even during a virtual conference on how to enhance physician participation.
Join us March 11 to 16 for the 2nd annual Ethical Development Hackathon hosted by @GlobalEdUofA, @UAlberta_FoMD and @ICChangeAB. This year's topic is lessons from LMICs (w/ @HCUcanada, @MbararaUST) to improve Canadian food security. Open to all Canadian post-secondary students!
Nice reminder by @GavinPJonesMD that we are and must remain oncologists first, radiation oncologists second.

So emotional and excited to see my friends and colleagues vaccinated against COVID 19 (the first was @a_dalpra). We can end so much sadness and destruction together #ThisIsOurShot
I know nothing about this individual, but it's further evidence for all of us that even if what you're doing is "permissible", there may be totally unforseen consequences.
Again the best way to keep everybody safe is follow the recommendation to avoid all non essential travel.
UK traveler who returned to Vancouver Island Dec 15 and is in quarantine (though had some close contacts) has tested positive for the first case of the COVID 19 UK variant (which can spread even faster)
