THROWBACK THURSDAY: Our founder, Fr. Edmund Wood (1830 - 1909), was known for his athleticism and fearlessness in his ‘young and foolish days.’
Around 1860, as nearby Christ Church Cathedral was nearing completion, he took on a dare to climb its 224 feet steeple.
This needs to go Viral! In Atlanta for the FIFA World Cup game between Spain & Cabo Verde a fan wearing a Spain jersey gestured to a Cabo Verde fan asking if he would like to swap jerseys & he said excitedly said Yes so they traded jerseys & hugged for what seemed like forever.
Our Bishop has recently taken up hockey; it's how we roll in the Episcopal Diocese of Minnesota. As a "flying father" in my cassock and Team Canada sweater, I've given him the only advice he needs: "Keep your head up, and your stick on the ice".
Poet @malcolmguite retells the Authurian legend in verse. Do stories like this have the power to revive a dying world?

@Make_it_Raines Also: this study funded by the Godly Play people. They found GP isn't correlated w/ church attendance as an adult, but the kids became *spiritual.* Study suggests we redefine a "successful" children's ministry as one that develops a (Schleiermacherian) religious consciousness smh
"Without a liturgy, or regular form of prayer, no church can continue long; for when the spirit is gone, there is nothing left but a scriptural liturgy..."
- Bishop John Strachan, Sermon preach at York (Toronto), Upper Canada, 1825
If someone were to ask me what the liturgical life begins with, I should answer: with learning stillness. Without it, everything remains superficial, vain.

BONO'S SPINAL TAP MOMENT
In late May 2010, Bono sat in his Munich hospital room and recorded this candid, funny, and vulnerable video for U2 fans.
He looks pale but in good spirits, joking about his spinal injury while facing the postponement of the massive 360° Tour.
Days earlier, during rehearsals in Munich, Bono suffered a severe herniated disc with an 8mm ligament tear, disc fragments in the spinal canal, and intense sciatic nerve compression that caused partial paralysis in one leg. Doctors at Ludwig Maximilians University Hospital said surgery was urgent. Professor Jorg Tonn operated on May 21, and four days later this became Bono’s direct message to worried fans.
In the clip, Bono dubs it his “Spinal Tap” moment, admitting he’s “not indestructible.” You see his disappointment over missing shows like Glastonbury.
The injury forced U2 to reschedule all 16 North American 360° dates in 2010 to 2011. After weeks of intense rehab, Bono returned to the stage in Turin in August 2010. The tour went on to become one of U2’s most successful runs.
It was one of the first of many serious injuries and health scares over the next decade, including a devastating 2014 bicycle accident in Central Park, New York, that fractured his eye socket, shoulder blade, upper arm (in six places), and pinky finger, requiring surgery with metal plates and screws. He also underwent life-saving open-heart surgery in 2016. This brought him face-to-face with his own mortality and inspired many lyrics and meditations on death in light of his faith.

We are reviving these old services partially because it's fun, and partially because they help us understand and frame our national story, and by extension our national identity. The consequences of losing the threads of our shared, if contested, narrative are all around us.
Archbishop Michael Ramsey stays winning.
"The Anglican church... is not sent to commend itself as 'the best type of Christianity,' but by its very brokenness to point to the universal Church wherein all have died."
