In the name of fighting censorship, the Trump administration is shaping digital ecosystems to favor its preferred narratives while chilling dissent. It is a form of soft epistemic authoritarianism—and we all (I hope) know what comes next.
The Mediterranean is on fire.
A buoy off the coast of Majorca has measured a sea surface temperature of 31ºC, the average AUGUST temperature is 26ºC.
Temperatures range from 3-7ºC above average across the basin. This marine heatwave is setting new records for what's possible.
June 2025 was the third warmest June on record after 2024 and 2023 in the ERA5 dataset. It was approximately 1.3C above preindustrial (1850-1900) levels.
Someone asked me last night why I always talk about the science of climate change, but not solutions. I think it's worth addressing this to be transparent about why I do what I do.
First, he's right. I do spend more time on the science/ data. That's mainly because it is where my interest and expertise align. The intersection of climate and weather is my primary expertise. And a warmer climate is impacting my community and others around the World right now.
Candidly, although I know a bunch about solutions, I wouldn’t say I’m an expert.
With that said, I have done my fair share of segments, stories, posts etc... on solutions in my past decade of relentless work on this subject. I still do.
But unfortunately I’ve found propsing solutions sometimes leads to backlash - made many people angry, dig in, and even double down.
People don't like being told what to do. Also I think it is unfair to put the weight of this issue on your shoulders. Personal changes are good - I do my best to walk the walk in my personal life - but only systemic change across societies and cooperation can really solve this. It's an immense undertaking - but it will pay dividends if we accept the challenge.
So why do I bother even doing this when I recieve so much push back for communicating the science?
It's simple: I view it as my responsibility. My obligation.
This is my expertise. I have degrees in both atmospheric sciences and climate. I study this stuff day in, day out. I work in media and have a platform.
So if this is not my responsibility then exactly who's responsibility is it?
If I don't do it, then who else will? Who is better equipped than me to do this?
As a scientist and journalist I view my job as simple: communicate the truth, no matter how inconvenient it may be.
Yes, it can feel thankless - but thats ok… I am not doing it for the applause.
I am doing it because its the right thing to do.
Bottom line: I am not posting climate stuff to antagonize anyone and I am not asking you to do anything about it.
I'm simply illustrating how us 8 billion Earthlings are changing the planet and the natural systems which support us. It's up to you to decide if you'd like to be a part of the solution. It’s a personal decision.

We knew it, but seeing the data laid out – it's still shocking: higher taxes for most, deep cuts to Medicaid & SNAP—all to fund tax breaks for the top 1%.
It's difficult to fully grasp the scale of the con being perpetrated on Americans right now by the Trump administration.
We’re allowing ourselves to be governed by oligarchs & corporate stooges at the worst possible moment.
We use this moment to fight for a new politics, free from corporate & oligarch money, or it’s fascist authoritarianism, followed by collapse, then followed by not much at all.
As governor of Illinois, I’ve made it my mission to make our state the best to call home including for our LGBTQ+ community.
No matter who you are or who you love, everyone deserves dignity and equality.

We've reached 1.5°C global warming.
With current policies, we're heading for a catastrophic 2.7°C warming.
A new review paper in Science shows: this would change the Arctic 'beyond recognition', with knock-on effects (like rising seas) around the world.

🌡️ No words, no numbers—just a powerful visual capturing our planet’s warming.
🔴 The latest update adds a new dark red stripe for 2024—a color first introduced last year when 2023 shattered all previous records.

Climate literacy principle #4
As of 2021, Earth had warmed by about 1.1°C above preindustrial levels. The current rate of warming is roughly 30x faster than the rate at which Earth warmed as it emerged from the last ice age.

It just keeps getting more insane.

There are more than a million corals at risk near #PortEverglades. A research team from @shedd_aquarium@jrcunning led a scientists from @univmiami@MiamiWaterkpr to document & map out where the corals are and come up with a plan to protect them before dredging begins.
MORE THAN A MILLION CORALS KILLED when in 2013 dredging @portmiami smothered 278 acres of corals in sediment. Now as Army Corps of Engineers gets ready for a deepening & widening project at @PortEverglades scientists are making sure the Port Everglades Corals are protected. (1-2)
