@neoavatara You were better when you stated facts and didn't get emotional.
Congress: “For this law, ‘Great Lakes’ includes Lake Ontario.”
President: “We're going to officially change the geographic name of that lake to Lake America.”
Those statements can potentially coexist.
@neoavatara Oil production and investment are being handled substantially by businesses seeking a return on their investment—not by the U.S. government running the oil industry as a government-owned enterprise.
@neoavatara Businesses invest money in drilling, equipment, infrastructure, and operations. If the investment performs poorly, they can lose money. That's a fundamental feature of capitalism.
@neoavatara Companies participating in the arrangement can make profits from producing and selling oil. In socialism, productive assets are generally intended to be socially/publicly owned rather than primarily operated for private profit.
@neoavatara The U.S. government can negotiate the terms, impose sanctions, provide diplomatic/security support, and regulate the arrangement without actually owning the participating oil companies. Government involvement by itself doesn't make an economic system socialist.
@neoavatara The arrangement involves companies competing for investment opportunities and selling a commodity in markets. That's much closer to a mixed-market capitalist system than to socialism.
@neoavatara “Lancaster County Coroner Steve Diamantoni said the cause of death was not from the measles. The newborn died shortly after birth from a laceration of the spleen, although measles antibodies were present in postmortem testing, he said in an interview.”
