No, Natalia. What we need are workplaces that actually implement basic safety measures to stop airborne transmission. And employers who are held accountable when their negligence turns preventable diseases into workplace hazards.

I wear a mask in public in my daily life because I understand what it MEANS to do so. Our actions having meaning. If you understand this virus, how do you la-la-la your way past this? It’s bewildering.

Masking on planes is one of the easiest lifestyle changes we could collectively make to halt or slow future pandemics. Vulnerable ppl have to fly for various reasons and have no choice but to be trapped in a tin can w you. You should be home if sick, masked if flying.
It’s the original sin of COVID, it’s the original sin of the pandemic, it’s the original sin the failure of halt the virus. We never had the proper tools. We were washing down our groceries and then standing 6 feet away from ppl in the grocery store catching that virus
They never followed through on their early claim that, if it were shown to be fully airborne, they’d recommend full airborne precautions in medical settings. Instead, they let the news trickle out with little fanfare. It was a PR nightmare for them, and they didn’t promote it
And when the science showed Covid was much more transmissible than previously believed, the WHO failed to mount an appropriately comparable CORRECTIVE campaign to explain how they’d be WRONG. That washing your hands isn’t as important as wearing a high quality n95 mask.
Incredible work was done to finally get the WHO to admit that COVID was fully airborne- but this was after a full year of inaccurate messaging, like that surgical masks were as effective as KN95 or N95 masks, or that social distancing was as adequate as masks
The WIRED piece above should be required reading bc it recounts how the WHO was not merely WRONG about how COVID spread. They LIED about their CERTAINTY that COVID “was not airborne”. Clearly this was not true. Fantastic scientists like Linsey Marr PROVED them wrong
The WHO also very notoriously refused to consider airborne transmission of COVID and all through first year heavily pushed the misinfo that it could only spread via “droplets” in spite of other scientists’ objections.
