It's the first draft of WCAG 3, we have a lot of questions that we want answered. Here's my "Insider look" with the detailed explanation of the important issues and the specific questions we want feedback on.

@JonAvilaA11y WCAG3 is NOT proposing granting exceptions. We are modeling what to require when the "one-size-fits-all" conformance model doesn't work. Today, it is a loophole where people can say "undue burden" and do nothing. We want more requirements, not less.
@DanHollick I'm one of the leads on #WCAG3. This is premature. We do not know yet if we are going to use this approach. I am confident there will be significant changes. Please do not encourage people to start implementing it. The Visual Contrast example is a prototype and is not ready.
Type and typography are the fundamentals of communication, and to communicate effectively we need to understand how fonts perform with audiences of different abilities.

You may have heard of @knowbility's #Accessibility Internet Rally (AIR) or #AccessU. Meet @sharrush, the wonderful human behind it and see what accessibility barrier she'd like to see solved: https://t.co/9EzEE0JZjm

Jen Psaki, the White House Press Secretary, went on to say: "The president is committed to building an America that is more inclusive, more just, and more accessible for every American including Americans with #disabilities and their families." <big smile> #a11y
For those #a11y experts looking for more detail on the science behind the first draft of #WCAG3 visual contrast, see @MyndexResearch site and tool for measuring visual contrast of color and font combinations.
@benostrower @andersenek I'm glad to see this. May I introduce you to the next generation contrast tool and specification? It is based on solid vision science, perceptually accurate, and part of the new #WCAG3 (aka Silver) which just released the FPWD on Friday.

@lesozgur @w3c I can't DM you either. We all protect ourselves from spammers. If you go WCAG3, I'm listed as an editor with my email. https://t.co/azFbL0KB5g
@lesozgur @w3c We have a group working on captions in WCAG3. You are welcome to join. I suspect the problem is W3C does standards and very little with tools. I will DM you. I'm relearning twitter, so I am not sure that will give you access. Let me try.
@Equidox_A11y Catch up is important, but this is the first draft of WCAG3 and there will be many changes before it is finished. It is still about two years from completion.
@yatil@patrick_h_lauke@tcaspers They (and we) are still working on it. I was surprised that it already had progressed as far as it has. I think it shows that tool devs want to try out the new algorithm. If you haven’t read the bug thread, check comment 9 and further on. It’s promising. :)
@yatil@LeonieWatson@patrick_h_lauke@tcaspers I think we should wait a while to see how tools develop, but I suspect that we could teach designers to start with the colors they want, adjust the fonts for the necessary contrast, and then adjust the color until they get what the total look they want that is accessible.
@yatil@patrick_h_lauke@tcaspers I total agree. This is the first draft. No one has built the tools yet. That comparison table will all be improved and built into the tools. This will get a lot simpler once the tool companies sink their teeth into it.
@yatil@patrick_h_lauke@tcaspers I don't think you would teach this any more than you teach the underlying formulas of WCAG2 color contrast today. We are exposing the formulas early in the process because we want expert feedback in this area. Once the tools are built, you would just teach how to test it.
@patrick_h_lauke@LeonieWatson@yatil@tcaspers I believe they do not encode heuristics. I don't know about future plans. Do keep an eye on this in future drafts, Pat. This is helpful.
@yatil@patrick_h_lauke@tcaspers I agree it is too complex now. There are no professional tools yet. This tool is a proof of concept built by one researcher. By getting the ideas and algorithm out early, there is time for the pros to build good tools.
@patrick_h_lauke@yatil@tcaspers I have listened in on technical discussions about that. I couldn’t explain the resolution, but I know people were excited at possibilities and cautious of the challenges.
