@Gentleman2109 @SrikarRebel8 @sehrawatc463 rohit
ran an entire campaign against hardik last year when he got captaincy, deeming him as an unfit captain and criticising him for replacing rohit. And in this bgt went hard on kohli while not uttering a word against rohit and did his PR with 2 baccho ka baap hu interview.
@openletteryt@ReallySwara arre bhai yeh log nhi samjhenge, muslims pe attack in gaza is wrong but normal israelis pe attack is right according to the left.
Story time.
It's about cloud security failures and why good engineering practices matter, especially during the One to N journey.
(A past colleague I met at a conf told me his story from a few years ago.)
Here goes!
As a team lead, you're woken up by an AWS billing alarm!
on my 26th birthday, i wrote I Took A Pill in Ibiza…10 years ago. The song became popular several years after i wrote it. Yesterday i celebrated my 36th birthday. i feel proud to look at the song lyrics and know that NONE of them are true anymore. I’ve grown into a completely new man…one that i’m proud of. check this out… 🧵
A super short SRE interview story.
(10 mins into the interview, after a couple of technical questions..)
Interviewer (me): Tell me about a time when you faced an unfamiliar technical problem and you had no help from seniors in the team.
Candidate (C): (thinking...) Oh yes, just last week, I was trying to configure the OpenTelemetry exporter and faced an issue. I searched for the error message but couldn't find anything relevant to my use case. I went through the docs, joined the OpenTelemetry Slack channel, interacted with the community, and searched through GitHub open issues and PRs.
me: Did you find the solution?
C: Not really, but I found a workaround and actually found a better way to get the data I needed.
(for the remaining time, we discussed a bunch of other things as well...)
Conclusion:
- It should be common sense, but unfortunately, what the candidate did is not that common. It's become increasingly rare to see folks go deep into the issue, trying out various options, unraveling the tech stack, and peeling layers along the way to find a good way to achieve the use case.
- Please learn to read docs, GitHub open issues, PRs, etc. Don't be afraid to jump into the code if needed. Good engineers don't treat third-party systems as opaque black boxes, especially if these are open-source tools with good community support.
- You may not always get all the help when you want, but being able to unblock yourself and showing the agency to make progress given the info you have is a key skill that's super valuable.
