Film student is already late 60s, and they really didn't care- USC, UCLA, AFI.
Ad director was by late 70s.
Video director was early to mid 80s.
Cinematographer has always been a thing, but it's historically the most hit-or-miss move. A lot of people have theories on this.
@brandnewandy@LexG_III It's one reason studios have abandoned comedy (and adult drama), it's a domestic play. They got hooked on big foreign markets- especially China- during the Avatar/MCU era.
Action- especially cheap action!- has always been a sure bet in foreign markets.
