In 2021, the Murillo-Ortega regime opened Managua to charter flights from Haiti, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, and eventually intercontinental flights carrying migrants from South Asia, the Middle East, and Africa. 

The flights were arranged by human smuggling networks charging passengers anywhere from $3,000 to over $5,000 per seat. There were even Libyan charters flying 777s from Tripoli to Managua, laden with African migrants.

Over 1,000 charter and pseudo-commercial flights carrying an estimated 200,000+ passengers landed in Managua in a single 12-month period.

Flying into Managua allowed migrants to bypass the dangerous trek through the Darién Gap, placing them just three countries away from the U.S. southern border. 

The regime did it for two reasons:

By charging steep landing fees, airport taxes, and mandatory "transit fees" or "safe passage" permits on arrival, they generated tens of millions of dollars in off-the-books revenue.

To create political and border pressure on the United States in retaliation for economic sanctions imposed on the regime.

On the latter point, the Biden-era mass migration crisis was coordinated via the leftist internationale most recently branded the Puebla Group (really, Castro and Lula’s old Foro de São Paulo), with the full cooperation of at least China and potentially other powers from outside the Western Hemisphere.
