@BridgetAnneCar1@laurarw I definitely think social media impacts elections. Users are subject to all kinds of ads and promotional campaigns online. A lot of the younger generation uses social media for news, so in this sense they will be impacted.
@emily_t22@laurarw I have always been hesitant to post my location on social media. Though it’s not as big of a problem as it would be for celebrities, you can be unintentionally putting yourself in danger if the wrong person has access to your location.
@chlograced@laurarw I think dangerous challenges are often a ploy for views. I feel like kids will see others do a challenge like this and do the same to “keep up” and gain those views as well.
@JoshieDev@laurarw I feel that social media is a bit of a catch-22 in that it raises awareness around mental health while also increasing mental illness in certain cases. Specifically, comparing oneself to the highlight reels can cause anxiety and depression in users.
#ucengl2074@laurarw Do you have concerns regarding your privacy on social media? Do you find targeted ads a cause for concern, or an invasion of privacy? https://t.co/4qpF3Kph6H
@Kellie_UC@laurarw I think VR could change the world of training for athletes. It could be a good way to practice specific skills at one’s individual need. I don’t think it’s possible for it to completely replace the typical training, especially when it comes to strength or stamina.
@NicoleAnnNewman@BusinessInsider@laurarw I do not own a VR device, and I don’t have any interest. I do think it could gain popularity when it comes to online gaming or even social media in the future. But honestly, I hope it’s just a fad.
@ellabailey922@laurarw I feel like social media is notorious for spreading misinformation simply for increased engagement. Posting with the intention of gaining as many likes or views, I think, can lead to the spread of misinformation. Especially when that misinformation is perceived as entertaining
@Maddiemmaureen@laurarw I feel like social media evokes sympathy in a way that other news platforms do not. When victims of disaster post their situation, we see the real-life people it’s affecting, rather than an impersonal tv news story.
@KendallxWright@laurarw As some others in the group said, I think social media will continue to evolve but not be replaced. It is too much of an integral part of our society as it is used as entertainment, news, education, and is even a part of the hiring process for workplaces.
@yung_aaron_t @laurarw I understand how NFTs can be an investment, but I do not see the appeal. If I’m buying something like art, I would much prefer a physical copy. The article talks abt the appeal of the “feeling” of ownership, but to me it feels like a very indirect ownership.
@audreyystring@laurarw I think social media can be useful for employers to learn more about a candidate, but I don’t think one’s social media presence should make or break their chance of landing a job. Unless, of course, something truly distressing is found on their social media.
@mapleleafduck@laurarw It’s very easy to fall into the spiral of comparison, especially when seeing only the “highlight reel” of other’s lives. I do, however, think that one’s tendency to compare will depend on what their mental state is to begin with.
@PCARRIGAN4@laurarw I completely agree with the rest of the group here in that these harmful trends are all a ploy for views. One of the scary things about social media is that people readily hop on dangerous trends/challenges in the hope of gaining fame.
@emgirdler @LauraW I definitely think a rise in social media and internet use since the pandemic has effected the marketing we see online. Personally, I have found myself to online shop much more through following ads on Instagram or TikTok.
@Homan94@laurarw I completely agree. Social media is notorious for instigating, or eliciting, a certain response, and often people will make judgements on what they see without knowing the whole story.
@KET2033 @laurarw I do not use social media to enhance my career. I keep my accounts private and I generally do not post much. I feel like social media should be used for entertainment purposes. That being said, I do think it could be an accessible way to network in certain instances.
@Abbey_UC@laurarw I think the“being transparent” rule is often broken by businesses. I feel like corporations attempt to show people what they want to see, even if it’s at the cost of their authenticity. After buying a product or contributing in some way, you discover something new abt the company
@MajorBeezle@laurarw I could not bring myself to watch the video. But, I do think social media can be a way to make this sort of brutality known to the general public. That being said, I have mixed feelings after reading the article Abbey shared about “perverse entertainment.”
@laurarw I’m pretty comfortable when it comes to social media, though I have never used it in a marketing context. I would like to improve in the area of social media and digital marketing. I also think it would be beneficial to learn more video skills.
