Excited and very happy to be awarded my first grant from the @CREID_Network Pilot Research Program. This grant will allow me to further develop my skills in the field of emerging diseases! (1/9)
1/ Excited to share our new paper in PLOS Neglected Tropical Diseases:
Discovery of a novel coltivirus in a newly identified bat bug species in Cambodia.

6/ This work reinforces the value of One Health surveillance looking beyond vertebrate hosts alone and includes the arthropods associated with them.
Very grateful to all co-authors and collaborators across virology, entomology, field ecology, metagenomics, and virus discovery.
Cambodia confirms 2nd human #H5N1 case of 2026 in a 45-year-old woman from Banteay Meanchey province. Patient hospitalized and under treatment.
2026: 2 cases, 0 deaths
Since 2023: 36 cases, 15 deaths (CFR 41.7%)
Since 2004: 92 cases, 52 deaths (CFR 56.5%)

In May 2025, The Telegraph joined our field mission on virus surveillance work in #Cambodia, where we used novel, non-invasive techniques like air sampling in live bird markets and bat caves, paired with field-deployable tools, to detect #emergingviruses at the source.
Cambodia has confirmed its 9th and 10th human cases of H5N1 bird flu this year. 6 of these cases occurred in June alone. Sadly, 6 people have died in 2025. #H5N1#BirdFlu#Cambodia#Influenza
