@flowsdoc The best youth programs are not the ones that go after weekend wins! They are the ones that give their kids regular non-baseball athletic movement work as part of their programming. Needs to be a standard for these teams!
Bryce Harper grew up hitting with a wood bat.
My sons will too
Why?
Because different bats + different balls create different movement problems
Kids have to see it
Move
Adjust
Figure it out
The best hitters aren’t just great swingers
They’re great movers
What’s your go-to?
It all depends on the kid. I think where most coaches fail is that they make it more about themselves than about the kids that they are trying to help guide. It’s not a thing to do on purpose! For me, it was one of the best things that I did for my oldest. He takes the game so seriously. And put so much pressure on himself! Removing myself from his perceived outcomes between the lines has helped him let go and play so much more freely. I think you’re thinking about this the right way.
@JermaineCurtis Some of these at bats, especially in the playoffs, it’s as if you are “in the zone” playing basketball where you know if you just throw it up, you got a shot at it going in. Cool to see
@JermaineCurtis Just gave this same piece of feedback earlier. Tough to interpret side-by-side when the comparisons are moment in time. Too many variables in play

Mistakes are just information. A kid trying not to miss gets tight. Give him permission to miss and he stops guarding every swing. Learn, keep growing, and don’t be so hard on yourself.
Kid last night kept spiraling every time a swing didn’t go how he planned. We stopped, took a breath, and I told him to go make as many mistakes as possible.
Then he started hitting the back net, over and over. Tension kills the swing
@tommym8 Love the insights! but how do we know that these aren't just day-to-day variance? Two clips, two specific moments. e.g Has anyone measured grip tension across a full season of ABs? feels like a sensor opportunity waiting to be built!
thanks for sharing.
@JWonCATCHING One of my favorites from the other side is to read the runner at third and skip the throwdown and go for the backpick instead. Catch the lead runner leaning.
Today we are rolling out Gemini 4 Argon globally in the Gemini API, to Pro + Ultra in Gemini App, and Ultra subs in Antigravity!
Argon is a huge step forward for Gemini, and a labor of love. This model has been battle tested by over 100,000 people at Google over the last month, with so much new innovation, ambition, and hard work baked into this release. The team has been heads down over the last 6 months working to make this possible across the stack (research, infra, safety, eng, etc).
We rolled the model out to cyber defenders as part of our fairwind program and early access customers over the last 2 weeks, it has been amazing to see and talk to folks who are now using this model daily. Seeing the models writing capability, raw knowledge and persistence for coding, paired with new features like 1M token output when the model needs to work more has gotten me even more excited about our path ahead.
This is just the start of the Gemini 4 era. As you saw with 3.5, 3.6, 3.7, and 3.8 Flash, our iteration speed with Gemini is fast : ) Now with Gemini 4 Argon to work from, I am cannot wait to see the progress continue, and most importantly see what this new model enables for the world.
This is such a special moment in the arc of technology, as millions of people everyday tackle problems they could never have thought possible before. Gemini 4 Argon was built to help you tackle the hardest problems. I have personally felt this spark with Argon and hope you do too. Onwards!!
Being a positive male role model is something I think about a lot. Kids pick up way more from how we handle stress than from anything we have to say. I try to be firm and hard on effort, but its also so important to be thoughtful and giving.
@JermaineCurtis For young kids that I work with whom I notice to be hesitant with their initial swing decision, I play a game with them where it’s situational and I live pitch to them a softball instead of a baseball for the “first” pitch of the AB. I want them to hunt for that first pitch.
@CamWoodBats@helms_wes@treysikes22 A lot of kids 'bad' swings are simply a lack of strength! Love the idea of just getting stronger, and becoming a better mover as a priority. Just keep stacking the foundation of what a good swing needs to be and put them in the proper constraints to do something.
