If ignorance can be amplified louder than knowledge, and loyalty to tribe outweighs loyalty to truth, how long can a democracy survive before it becomes theatre for fools?
Eric my gifted friend, the truth is that what passes for “peer review” today is nothing like the idealized process people imagine. It’s not an open, impartial test of ideas. It’s a gatekeeping mechanism that reinforces orthodoxy, keeps disruptive insights out, and maintains the status quo of funding and prestige.
The tragedy is that the public thinks peer review equals truth, when in reality it often just equals conformity. Real science isn’t about defending institutions, it’s about relentless questioning, testing, and discovery.
I speak up about this not because I want to tear science down, but because I want to restore it to what it was meant to be: a pursuit of truth, wherever it leads, not a guarded fortress of dogma.
“I promise to question everything my leaders tell me. I promise to use my critical faculties. I promise to develop my independence of thought. I promise to educate myself so I can make my own judgements.”
-- Carl Sagan
Life's difficult paths can sometimes be disturbing.
As @miketyson once said, "When you're favored by God, you're also favored by the devil, but remember that God is the one who brings you to the dance."
The harder you fight to stay up, the harder life fights to take you down.
@spacewxwatch In the UK, Manchester bitch! Well, actually I was in bed asleep, my sexy wife took these pictures . I did stay up for the other "event" a month or so after. 😎
