Starting a series on products with great (and not-so-great) UX.
First: the Zojirushi NHS-06 Rice Cooker.
One switch. One light.
Add rice and water, push the switch.
When it’s done, the light turns off and the switch pops up.
Removing unnecessary steps leaves almost no room for error.

Focus, as Steve Jobs said, is about saying no.
The only dangerous competitors are focused ones.
Ergo there are things that even the most dangerous competitors say no to, and it would be worth thinking explicitly about what those are.
Some things are better off ignored than attacked.
Attention is the oxygen of conflict. When you fight a problem, you breathe life into it. When you starve a problem of your attention, you suffocate it.
In a surprising number of cases, the way to solve a problem is to ignore it.

Some VCs and founders believe that you need a little luck to make a startup work. This is true. But it is more important to have a company with grit and persistence. You just need to find a way to stay alive long enough to get lucky.
11 yo and his friends are always coming up with ideas for beating the system. I told him that the really big money is not in little tricks like that, but in making things that help people.
The productivity boost from working remotely does not come from replacing all those in-office meetings with a bunch of video calls. It comes from turning all those meetings into write-ups instead. Status updates, pitches, ideas. Write. Them. Down.
@paulg@antirez I used to laugh at @BillGates idea of paid email but I would love it now. Basically you can set a price, e.g., 300 dollars, 50 cent, etc. Then anyone can send you a message, if you like the message you don't charge them. If it's spam, you get the money
