Thank you for all the support these years. Gracias 🙏
Random funny story about this. Me and SlyBass did a social experiment many many years ago to get people to try and play DOA offline at venues & locals. Surprisingly enough, the holds and the lack of throwbreaks were actually the key suspects to not get people to try it sometimes. I still remember til this day where Sly had matches with people using neutral throws and the new guys trying it out where breaking it plus having fun with the game. But the moment Sly did a forward 6T (unbreakable throw) when the guy was "guarding" and couldn't break it, new guy no longer wanted any part of it lmao. Not just any new guy, was some pretty known players from their respective communities etc.
Believe it or not, but there is actually a lot of people that genuinely do like the aesthetics of DOA, so not everyone within the FGC has a hate boner for DOA. It's mostly a lot of people don't vibe with the mechs and just completely ignore the series even exist afterwards. This is when Sly realized that he couldn't do the whole social experiment thing anymore because it was a hassle to get people out of their comfort zone to try it.
Obviously this is not speaking for everyone because location varies, and others exist like Japan or EU which they probably have a different mentality behind it on their reasons for trying it/not trying it so who knows.
DOA is a series where you'd have to be committed to it in a long run with acceptance that their background from other games won't always translate to DOA. Because of that, most people don't see it as a risk worth taking if they are already used to the games they come from (which is completely reasonable since it's pretty much starting over from the ground up). It's just the nature of fighting games in general.
