@DCDPW The 5th St protected bike lanes between McMillan Drive NW and Harvard St NW could use a good cleaning — lots of trash/construction debris/sand/etc. thank you!
@FixCircle I assume this means that @DDOTDC is treating this project like it’s 2005 and there are no meaningful improvements for peds/cyclists/no road diet?
@FixCircle@Wash_cycle Frankly, the “bike lanes” that were painted up by the new Whole Foods (which are blocked by Amazon delivery drivers approximately 98% of the time) should be replaced by a PBL all the way from U to Barry. A failure by @DDOTDC to do this would be a huge missed opportunity.
@FixCircle@Wash_cycle Seems like the project documents aren’t yet viewable, but the “proposed improvements” image on the website at least suggests the PBL will be extended through the U St intersection: https://t.co/wBwHYLfyts
@HumaImtiaz@ScottRobertsDC@DDOTDC Agreed — this is the law on every road in DC. What possible downside is there to reminding drivers who are not aware of/ignore this fact? Not sure why this is something that DDOT should spend any time looking into….
@LhasaCM@dcspokes Yeah I guess that’s right, but since it’s just one gradual slope across the entire intersection as you note, doesn’t do much. Now if each individual crosswalk on either side of every uncontrolled intersection on this stretch were raised….
@dcspokes DDOT is trying to add one at Wiltberger St as part of their S St Revitalization project, but the engineering consultant still isn’t sure it will be included.
@ScottRobertsDC@DCPoliceDept@LeDroitParkDC Technically just a Theft One since the garage was not a dwelling unit — unfortunately this suspect does not appear to have committed any of the recent burglaries on the block.
@FixCircle What kills me is if you look at DDOT’s traffic volume maps, it seems like 1/4 to 1/3 of NY Ave traffic is just hopping on/off 395. If you were to give NY Ave a lane diet, a lot of drivers would probably just end up not cutting through DC to reach NoVa/PG County (e.g., via 295)
@MarkSussman_ If they’re considering them for this project, why not for a certain other recent project through downtown where drivers are routinely entering the PBL??
@FixCircle What’s the point of raising a family in a walkable city if you’re liable to be killed anytime you go for a walk? This city’s leadership is a joke.
@FixCircle@Wash_cycle@MichaelAlvino That would be great of course, but I think there simply isn’t enough ROW to do anything north of Aspen on Blair. Goes from 3 vehicular lanes to 2 with barely enough room for a sidewalk on one side of the road, let alone both.
@alopez_pdx@DDOTDC Agreed there are some good ideas here, but what about replacing the outer lane with a protected bike lane? Is @DDOTDC considering that? NJ absolutely does not need two lanes of traffic (even if one is off-peak parking), and having two lanes encourages tons of reckless driving.
@PoPville@BrianneKNadeau@charlesallen whatever happened to trying to force the Bowser administration to move forward with the 9th St bike project? The reduction in vehicle lanes as part of that project likely would have helped prevent this crash.
