The Lion of Ladakh passes away 🏵️

#LestWeForgetIndia🇮🇳 the passing of Colonel Sonam Wangchuk, Maha Vir Chakra (Retd), who breathed his last earlier today - 10 April 2026 following a sudden heart attack. He was 61.

A recipient of the Maha Vir Chakra, Col Wangchuk led troops of the Ladakh Scouts (Indus Wing) across the glaciated heights of Chorbat La on 30 May 1999, without artillery support, securing one of the earliest successes for India during the Kargil Conflict.

He came to be known as the ‘Lion of Ladakh’.

We salute Col Wangchuk for his courage, leadership, and distinguished service to the Nation.

We convey our deepest condolence to the family
