If you oppose the independence of Somaliland, first other somalis states must be united with the failed state of Somalia. Then Somaliland will see the outcome of that union.
The Lemkin Institute for Genocide Prevention is issuing a Red Flag Alert for Genocide against the people of Somaliland, particularly the Isaaq clan, who are at risk of suffering another genocide at the hands of the neighboring state of Somalia. The Institute is concerned that Israel’s recent recognition of Somaliland’s sovereignty could have the effect of rendering Somaliland even more vulnerable to military invasion from Somalia in an effort to “restore” territorial integrity before it loses more political ground.
As demonstrated by the recent speech given by Permanent Representative of Somalia to the UN, Ambassador Abukar Dahir Osman, the Somalian government continues to deny the 1987-1989 genocide against the Isaaq people, which claimed an estimated 200,000 lives. Somalia's political project of denying Somaliland’s sovereignty is similar in nature to the contemporary genocidal projects towards Ukrainians, Armenians, and Palestinians. There is a very high chance that any military invasion of Somaliland by Somalian forces will result in the genocide of Somaliland communities only 35 years after Somalia committed the Isaaq Genocide.
Notwithstanding any self-serving intentions behind Israel’s recognition of Somaliland’s “right to self-determination,” the rapid international backlash to Israel’s move threatens to obscure the legitimacy of Somaliland’s claims to independence and exacerbate tensions in the already-volatile Horn of Africa region.
Somaliland has a strong legal case for independence. A 2005 African Union Fact-Finding mission concluded that the union between Somaliland and Somalia was not ratified and thus not legally binding. Now is the time for the United Nations, the African Union, and other international bodies to work towards the establishment of Somaliland’s independence as a legal fact. Such a process would serve the interests of genocide prevention and peace-building in the Horn of Africa region.

The only hope that is benefit to the Somalis wherever they are is the statehood of the Republic of Somaliland, which has recently received international re-recognition from the state of Israel. So, Somalilanders must protect and preserve in this hope for the benefit of somalis.
Somalians are confused and losing sleep over two things that they have been hiding for the last 66 years but now unexpectedly revealed. The legitimate government of Somaliland, which they have been hiding its legitimacy by destroying all historical evidence, and Isaac genocide.
For anyone who forgot, this is what the African Union itself determined regarding Somaliland:
“The fact that the union between Somaliland and Somalia was never ratified and also malfunctioned when it went into action from 1960 to 1990, makes Somaliland's search for recognition historically unique and self-justified in African political history.”
Anyone who supports Somalia against Somaliland is morally bankrupt & can no longer hide behind ignorance as a defence!
Somalia’s ambassador to the United Nations denied the state sponsored genocide committed by his country, whereas his boss, the President of Somalia, speaking in Somali states otherwise.
Somalia’s selective solidarity & justice exposes its political opportunism, not genuine principle.
Tammy Bruce, Deputy Representative of the US to the UN @USUN, exposes in a discussion on Somaliland the double standards and hypocrisy of the international community and the UN Security Council.
Other countries are allowed to recognize a state that does not exist. Israel is forbidden from recognizing even a real state.
Spoiler alert: no one will determine for Israel whom it may conduct diplomatic relations with.
Israel has the same right to conduct diplomatic relations as any other Sovereign state. This is the US position on Somaliland and israel diplomatic relations.
When the Somali regime, led by Siad Barre, committed a massacre against the people of Somaliland, the world was silent. But Israel was not silent.
In 1990, Israel’s then-ambassador to the UN, Yohanan Bein, sent a letter to the UN Security Council warning about the massacre committed by Somalia in the city of Hargeisa. Even when it was inconvenient and diplomatically costly, Israel chose what was right.
That is what moral leadership looks like.
The Prime Minister announced today the official recognition of the Republic of Somaliland as an independent and sovereign state.
Prime Minister Netanyahu, Foreign Minister Sa'ar, and the President of the Republic of Somaliland signed a joint and mutual declaration.
