There is too much resignation these days among foreign policy elites about the end of the “liberal international order” or “rules-based order” or “transatlantic partnership “. One man is driving all of this. That’s it. There’s no mass movement supporting an invasion of Greenland or blowing up NATO. Trump is unpopular. He won’t be in power much longer. Polls show clearly the majority of Americans don’t support all these crazy Trump ideas. Stop admiring the problem; start doing something about it. Of course there’s no going back to the glory days of the 1990s. Reforms are needed. New ideas are needed. But assuming complete destruction of the international system we created after WWII is inevitable is premature.
