@LeftieStats@guardian I believe he’s wrong to not call it a genocide, but the quotation you’ve given is so horrifically out of context that it’s criminal
@AllyFogg People underestimate the chances of it- the multi-party system of the 1920s was only ended by the polarisation created by the national government.
@ShinMarginalScr Bevin, despite his imperialist and supremacist belief, was relatively justified in essentially all of his fears for the Palestinian mandate. He just didn’t have the power, funding or resources to actually achieve his proposed solution.
@nasscrave I honestly don’t understand the deal side that much? A man wants to build his legacy in a party he’s work in for over a decade, as an alternative to losing his seat pathetically in 3 years.
It’s pretty simple.
@hankfrackett@muke10101 As in, when he made those comments, he was briefed on by Starmer but they can’t really do anything further because of how popular he is in the party. Plus he’s not an MP so they can’t suspend him like others.
@hankfrackett@muke10101 He’s the mayor of Greater Manchester. He advocated unpopular stances that got him in trouble with the Labour leadership at the time. If it was most other people, he’d face punishment for it.?
@Lillythetankie@muke10101 Yes, I’m referring to his well documented history outside the interview: supporting self ID, banning conversion therapy and criticising the 2024 ruling as harmful.
@muke10101 I want an end to the cost of living crisis, a firm British response on Gaza and freedom for trans people.
I prefer that over overindulging one political party.
@jdpon_super_fan@steamedhamms He openly criticised the supreme court’s decision on trans woman and has actively worked for progressive causes. Like, yeah Wes endorsed him for the seat, he wants to seperate himself from Starmer. Doesn’t take away from the unpopular stuff he’s advocated.
@ChatzSol@Tom_Gann He stated it was a horror and that the “suffering in Gaza is beyond words” which got him into a lot of trouble with Starmer- he advocated the recognition of a Palestinian state and backed publicly medical aid to the region
@natejb2003@Tom_Gann I’m not saying he’s Tony Benn, I’m saying that in undermining an ability to genuinely change your views, I think you’re undermining other people’s potential.
I don’t think he’s be the greatest socialist that ever was. But I think he’ll so good solid nationalisations and work.
@4__5__1_ It’s the biggest British political gamble in at least the 21st century.
Honestly, I admire it. It’s about time that someone actually took a risk .
