The DNVP, traditional monarchists, and national conservatives were all racist and antisemitic. They were an existential threat to National Socialism just the same.

The Afrikaners were probably one of the first exemplary renditions of Race Communism.

After the Second Boer War, many rural Afrikaners were economically devastated. Urbanization then pushed large numbers into Johannesburg and other industrial centers, creating the famous “poor white problem.” Many Afrikaners became miners and industrial workers and joined trade unions. Consequently, Afrikaner workers often found themselves alongside English-speaking workers in organizations influenced by socialism, syndicalism, and the British labor movement.

The main slogan attributed to Socialist Afrikaners was "Workers of the world, unite and fight for a white South Africa." They rightfully recognized race as influencing economic factors and advocated for racial job protection. This is further exemplified by the Communist Party of South Africa finding its base in white industrial workers, the majority of whom were Afrikaners. What separated them from third world communist advocacy was that they protested in favor of the Color Bar, which protected certain occupations from being usurped by the "native" Zulus.

Unlike the conventional tendencies of NWE societies within this time period, Afrikaners formulated a unique type of organic socialist nationalism that completely repudiated Capitalism and classical liberalism. Since South Africa's economic order was dominated by English mining and financial capital such as the Witwatersrand,figures such as Cecil Rhodes and the Rand mining magnates became symbols of British imperial capitalism.

So, their grievances had a clear anti-capitalist dimension. Workers believed the mine owners were trying to increase profits by reducing labor costs and weakening the bargaining position of relatively expensive white workers, and this conflict contributed directly to the 1922 Rand Revolt.

So, Consequently, White socialist and Labour circles observed that mine owners had a straightforward economic incentive: hire whoever could perform the work for the lowest wage.

South African mining had a racial wage structure in which skilled and semi-skilled white workers generally received substantially higher wages, while Black workers occupied much lower-paid positions. When profitability declined after World War I, mining companies sought to transfer jobs from expensive white workers to cheaper Black workers.

They therefore concluded that capital could not be trusted to preserve the unique ethnic community and solidarity between White South Africans.
