My friend and I grabbed tickets to a packed NFL game between the Dallas Cowboys and the Green Bay Packers.

The stadium was loud, the energy was electric, and we were just there to enjoy the game and talk trash about the calls.

Halfway through the second quarter, my friend spotted a girl a few rows down.

They ended up talking during a timeout, laughing at the same bad puns, and exchanging numbers before the game even ended.

Her name was Jasmine.

At first, I thought it was just a little conversation that would end after the game.

A few weeks later, they started hanging out regularly. They grew really fond of each other, started dating, and honestly, I was genuinely happy for him.

He'd been single for a long time, and this finally felt like it was working.

Jasmine seemed to be exactly the kind of person he had been waiting for.

She checked on him during work, remembered the little things he told her, and made an effort to spend time with him.

Whenever we hung out, he couldn't stop talking about her.

We didn't want to argue with the men because they had documents proving they had paid for the property.

TERMINATOR 2 ISN’T REALLY ABOUT SAVING JOHN CONNOR. IT’S ABOUT A MACHINE LEARNING WHY HUMAN LIFE MATTERS.

The first Terminator is about survival.

Terminator 2 flips the entire idea.

This time, the Terminator isn’t hunting John Connor.

He’s protecting him.

And that’s what makes the relationship between John and the T-800 so important.

John is basically teaching a machine how to be human while the machine is teaching John how to survive.

At first, the T-800 sees everything literally.

If someone is a threat, eliminate them.

If John gives an order, follow it.

There is no emotional reasoning.

But John keeps challenging that.

He teaches him not to kill.

He teaches him why people matter.

He even teaches him how to act like a normal person.

And slowly, the Terminator starts doing something he was never programmed to do:

He begins making choices based on human values rather than simple instructions.

That’s why the ending hits so hard.

The T-800 finally understands something Sarah Connor has been trying to teach John throughout the movie:

The future isn’t predetermined. People create it through their choices.

And then the machine makes the ultimate choice.

He destroys himself because he understands that his existence could eventually lead to the technology that creates machines like him.

He isn’t simply completing John’s mission anymore.

He’s choosing to sacrifice himself because he has learned what sacrifice means.

That’s the beautiful irony of Terminator 2:

The human characters spend the movie trying to prevent machines from becoming human-like…

while the machine becomes the most human character in the story.

So here’s the real question:

Did John Connor save humanity by stopping Skynet — or did he save humanity by teaching a machine how to care about one human life?
