If you're interested in talking about why Toonami made its way onto Adult Swim after "streaming killed anime on tv," see me in Denver this April. Now what did I come on here for again?
Entering this site to do some good, honest research work, I realized that after a big conference announcement, academics like to come on here to say they're going and that's how we make social bonds along the way.
@_katiedidnt It's so fascinating! I think my next project has to be looking into timed comments further. I've been thinking about it alongside, well what about something like Twitch chat, other live streams, how is it functioning differently?
@_katiedidnt@ButNoCigar It's such a rich fan practice, showing the same level of interpretive creativity as the fics and art we think of as more obviously transformative. I wish fansubs could coexist with "official" translations!
@learnteachwin@geek_worlds Agreed! They don't seem to be able to to show the label of a building or document or something at the same time as dialogue is occurring? They'll flash through one and linger on the other.
@kouredios @_katiedidnt If paid, some say they wouldn't do it anymore. They don't want this as a job. But there are a few who professionalize their experience at viki and what about others in the translation industry who deserve to have their work valued with good pay.
@kouredios @_katiedidnt Issue of fair compensation is definitely unresolvable to me! Even if Viki model ok for some, impacts all. But it's also interesting that translation being voluntary, out of enjoyment of the act, is discussed often. I think it sets boundaries to overworking out of obligation.
@kouredios Absolutely, and volunteers try to educate in comments endlessly about why and how it's a long, hard process, but it's a never-ending stream. Meanwhile Viki certainly doesn't want to emphasize something that may make them seem unreliable.
Rosa was tear gased with her 4 children yesterday.
Even after the tear gas she says she will continue to peruse her asylum. This is her right. No matter how Trump decides to change the rules, never forget that asylum is an international right that belongs to everyone.
I think it's important to recognize that while Pikachu is not a cop, his job as an independent detective reveals, ultimately, his ruling class interests.
Fortmueller: I don't think departments are prepared to deal with how conversation shifts when we bring in a lot of production people. It will have ripple effects. #4b#flow2018
