62% of birth certificates do not have the father's details.

Most of the reasons:
- To easily access grants
- To hide paternity
- Father is a deadbeat
- Father is not aware he has a child
- Father wanted an abortion
- Father is committed elsewhere & doesn't want his details on the birth certificate
- Easier to access other social welfare
- Father is a(n illegal) foreigner
- Mother feels father must pay damages first
- Mother refuses to, because she's not married to the father
- Father wasn't around to sign home affairs documents
- Maternal grandparents advise mother not to add details

This must change. This thing is rubbish.

Paternity tests must be compulsory at birth. No birth certificate must be released without the father's details.

Cultural prescriptions must not inform home affairs protocol when it comes to children.

There are many present fathers, who provide for their kids... but are not on their children's birth certificates.

Luckily, I'm on all my children's birth certificates... but I know many good men who are not.
