@exfatloss@Jonathan_Blow What does nearing the limit mean? Even for lithium ion, we're not anywhere near the 4-500 Wh/kg theoretical maximum in any consumer application. And that's not even considering the fact that battery chemistries other that LION are at the forefront of R&D currently.
@exfatloss@Jonathan_Blow You're making the mistake of assuming that battery technology is stuck where it is now permanently. New innovations are being made all the time in battery tech, especially since EVs aren't the only things using these advances in battery tech.
@videolan Ok so you recognize the issue and know how to detect it! Question -- why don't you just automatically regenerate the plugin cache when you detect this issue instead of asking your users to clean up your mess?
@Jonathan_Blow Might I ask if you've tried MPV / have problems with their player? Since their windows builds statically link codecs / plugins, you shouldn't run into any plugin cache weirdness.
@cppig1995@Kknewkles@Jonathan_Blow@videolan VLC just said that they recognize and understand the problem, but put the onus of fixing it on the user. That's definitely a choice you can make, not a good one, but a choice all the same.
@cppig1995@Kknewkles@Jonathan_Blow@videolan How far can we move the goalposts today? MS introducing proprietary APIs that are not replicable in user space is somehow the same as VLC making architectural decisions that open itself up to this and not automatically regenerating plugin cache when this issue is detected?
