The mac G3 is actually running the last VLC (powerVLC).
The Pentium III on Windows XP, is running the last official release of VLC.
A lot of artefacts are from the 90s and early 2000s.

The last version of VLC runs on windows XP to 11, macOS 10.07 to 27, iOS9 to 27, Android 4.1 to the latest.
Runs on ChromeBooks, Apple TV, Android TV, VegaOs FireTV, Windows on ARM, Pentium III and so on…
With PowerVLC it runs on G3 with MacOS X 10.2!

Live on our booth at @IBCShow, with JBK, you can see and test them. Yes, both machines still work & yes, the latest VLC still runs on them!

No, they are not ready for the e-waste pile....
Because software compatibility is also an environmental feature, and because people don't optimize the software

VLC remembers. It has always had a soft spot for old formats, old machines and technologies everybody else declared dead.
