I honestly think this decision is being made by people an auto-pilot. They know how you extend the patent on drugs and they do it for all of their drugs. Their job is to extend patents and so they extend patents.

Today my brother made a video about how the patent on a drug for Tuberculosis should be expiring, but that Johnson and Johnson is extending with a legal loophole for four extra years.

As a result, experts estimate that six million people will die.
