A4: I think that means that as educators we are supposed to know our students and determine what topics/books our students can handle. The age appropriateness doesn’t necessarily mean a numerical number but it takes into consideration a bunch of things! #NCTEchat #UNILited

A3: In general, I think it’s important for people to realize that we don’t “teach” texts. We read them to understand standards, skills, and people. What we read isn’t how we’re supposed to think or behave. We aren’t trying to brainwash anyone. #nctechat

I would encourage preservice teachers to set policies now. Use the resources of NCTE and ALA. The best defense is a strong offense.
