18. The Hunga Tonga-Hunga Ha'apai volcano is what's called a Sursteyan eruption. The volcano is mostly underwater, sitting on the sea bed. But successive eruptions have brought its tip above sea level. These images show how much it grew in the eruptive period late Dec/early Jan.
