@AnnaJonckheer I don’t think they believed their impact would spread as far as it has. The internet and social media were still trying to find their footing, and didn’t understand the toll that they would eventually have in the world and politics #UWJ201 #308
@kartheiser_owen I don’t think many people respond the the action of “educating” themselves. They want a clear cut path, that’s easy access to news sources. People don’t want to told what to do, they want to be directed. #UWJ201 #308
The documentary The Facebook Dilemma, shows the apparent role companies like Facebook have in a democratic system. When do you believe their role gets taken too far, and should they even be involved in the first place? #UWJ201 #308
@divya_d626 Echo chambers are a catalyst for political material, but there’s outlets and space for people to not lean into a corner fueled by their ideology. It’s all personal based decisions, lead with political findings. It’s a tough position to get out of but not impossible #UWJ201 #308
@MasonHolcombe Although I believe polarization leans negative. It’s better for the public to care than not to care, it can be a catalyst for discussions that need a place to materialize. Without it we would not be aware of the issues in the first place. #UWJ201 #308
Today in lecture we discussed how our general perceptions of what polarization is leads to a greater divide amongst ourselves and the world. Do you believe there is way to unlink the two to create a more balanced outlook of the world? #UWJ201 #308
@KarleaSchuelke I definitely think there should be a shift in the way these specific companies have complete power over all of our media. However, this adjustment would be extremely difficult as it puts large cooperations at risk which in return hurts everyone. #UWJ201 #308
@AliAlturaifi4 It’s amazing how since taking this class, I perceive and read the news/social media differently. I look at the words being used and how it’s framed and conceive completely different ideas that I would have before. #UWJ201 #308
In lecture we learned about accuracy and direction motivation. Which do you see more of in your life in regards to friends, family and yourself? #308 #UWJ201
@hallerosew I assume, that if they allowed that for a main public figure that spoke majority from Twitter and social media. Then other extremists would have no issue also “bending” the rules slightly to advance their agendas. This probably happens more than we’d like to admit. #UWJ201 #308
@MadisonTargum This is an interesting question, because varying countries have specific cultural norms that we can not specifically censor. But we are seeing shift towards regulation. #UWJ201 #308
Today in lecture we discussed that we can not platform specific groups without interrupting others. Do you believe this is more of a good or bad thing for the agenda of certain movements? #UWJ201 #308
@allieserterides I believe it’s true that there’s a definite flair for the dramatic when it comes to “newsworthy” content. But that doesn’t make it any less news. It’s just an unbalanced telling, of a current event . #308 #UWJ201
@Austin_Keller10 I believe balance is extremely important, as there would complete chaos when socializing and understanding each other, if need was strictly leaning one way. Balance is the key to truth. #308 #UWJ201
#UWJ201 we learned in lecture that journalism is a mean for socialization. It’s fascinating to look at the news/media and see the ways in which it prepares each of us differently in society. #308
@bethshoop23 @EllieOverkamp This is so true. It’s easier and our social media is a a reflection of us, so majority of the info being pushed onto us consists of ideas and politics we are already deemed to belief. Pushing us further into a hole of a filtered reality. #UWJ201 #308
#UWJ201 We discussed how people are more likely to share beliefs when they feel others believe the same. This perpetuates that we’re social animals and the news is the pack leader, in regards to what info we trust. How did we come conditioned to reserve our true expressions.#308
@MadisonHaering @maddiegaustin_ @EllieOverkamp 100% agree. We are products of our environments, and we are social medias #1 consumer. Meaning whatever is being feed to us we internalize even for the smallest second. We become and focus on what’s in front of us, and that’s our screens. #UWJ201 #308
The concept of presumed media influence allows us to see a problem but stay at an arm’s-length away. Is this idea of being not direct but indirect affecting our perceptions of what’s deemed an “issue” and how we look to solve it? #UWJ201 #308
