People often say that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and I say that the most liberating thing about beauty is realizing you are the beholder.

A dad invited his son’s whole class to a birthday party.
21 kids. He sent the invites two and a half weeks early. He asked them to RSVP by the 10th.
Not one showed up.
Then the parents told him the quiet part: they’re not really his friends.
You can hear it in his voice. The anger. The heartbreak. A man who says he tries so hard to give his boy a good life, standing in a decorated pavilion with cake, gifts, and empty seats.
Then the local police and firefighters walked in.
They didn’t send a card. They showed up.
They became the party.
A kid should not have to learn, on his birthday, that nobody is coming. A dad should not have to thank the police so his son has someone to blow out candles with.
They did it anyway.

I BET YOU DIDN'Y KNOW ABOUT THIS: AFTER FLIGHT 77 HIT THE PENTAGON ON 9/11, THE FOLLOWING HAPPENED.
A daycare facility inside the Pentagon had many children, including infants who were in heavy cribs. The daycare supervisor, looking at all the children they needed to evacuate, was in a panic over what they could do.
There were many children, mostly toddlers, as well as the infants who would need to be taken out with the cribs. There was no time to try to bundle them into carriers and strollers.
Just then a young Marine came running into the center and asked what they needed. After hearing what the center director was trying to do, he ran back out into the hallway and disappeared. The director thought, "Well, here we are, on our own."
About 2 minutes later, that Marine returned with 40 other Marines in tow.
Each of them grabbed a crib with a child, and the rest started gathering up toddlers.
The director and her staff then helped them take all the children out of the center and down toward the park near the Potomac .
Once they got about 3/4 of a mile outside the building, the Marines stopped in the park, and then did a fabulous thing - they formed a circle with the cribs, which were quite sturdy and heavy, like the covered wagons in the Old West.
Inside this circle of cribs, they put the toddlers, to keep them from wandering off.
Outside this circle were the 40 Marines, forming a perimeter around the children and waiting for instructions. There they remained until the parents could be notified and come get their children.
The chaplain then said, "I don't think any of us saw nor heard of this on any of the news stories of the day. It was an incredible story of our men there.” There wasn't a dry eye in the room.
The thought of those Marines and what they did and how fast they reacted; could we expect any less from them? It was one of the most touching stories from the Pentagon.
It's the military, not the politicians that ensures our right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
It's the military who salutes the flag, who serves beneath the flag, and whose coffin is draped by the flag.
If you care to offer the smallest token of recognition and appreciation for the military, please pass this on and pray for our men and women, who have served and are currently serving our country, and honor the memory of those who have given the ultimate sacrifice!
God Bless The USA!
Never forget!!!
when I was like 12, I thought "hors d'oeuvres" was pronounced "horse divorce" because I'd only ever read it in books. Never heard anyone say it out loud. So at my aunt's wedding reception, I'm walking around with my cousin Jake telling everyone how good the "horse divorces" are. Just loudly complimenting the horse divorces. My mom didn't correct me for like thirty minutes because she was talking to relatives, and when she finally pulled me aside I wanted to die. The worst part is my Uncle Frank.....who's kind of a jerk honestly still brings it up at Christmas. He'll be like "hey, remember horse divorces?" and I'm 28 now. It's been sixteen years, Frank. Let it go. I think what bothers me most is that nobody corrected me earlier. Like, all these adults just let this kid walk around saying horse divorces. My cousin Jake says he didn't know how to pronounce it either so he just went along with it. We were both just confidently wrong together, I guess.
Who we let into our country matters.
A 15 year old girl was raped by two Afghan asylum seekers in Warwickshire England.
The lawyer blamed the attack on “cultural differences” and said his client “was not used to a society where women are free and deemed equal to men”.
The United States should be unapologetically strict with who we let into our country.
no one talks about how draining it is when your mood is constantly switching between "keep going, it'll get better" and "i can't do this anymore I'm about to give up"
I feel sooooo strongly about this!
Two of my kids were initially in a school that taught sight words. When I brought them home & started reading with them it was so discouraging to discover that they believed they had no power to read a word if they hadn’t memorized how the word LOOKED yet. We are creating a generation of students who have no ability to read a new word on their own.
I immediately started teaching them how to sound a word out and it changed everything once they got the hang of it.
Guessing words by sight and only being able to read whatever words you have been given on a list to memorize is tragic.
Raise your hand if you wish your husband didn’t have to work constantly, but are also extremely glad he does/can cause it allows you to be a SAHM who homeschools 🙋♀️🙋♀️🙋♀️
Being married is so elite. Like “oh, excuse me, that’s my ✨ husband ✨” yes, please notice the pretty rings on my finger. “I’m ✨ Mrs. ✨ [his last name]”
The Hollywood bongo bongo drums are telling me that today is a huge day for @blakelively, her husband Ryan Reynolds @VancityReynolds, her distancing soon-to-be ex-best friend @TaylorSwift, as there is a hearing in the lawsuit which @JustinBaldoni, @wayfearer_live et al have found themselves sucked into, much against their will, but which they are defending with the most wonderful effectiveness gratis @BryanFreedman and their team of lawyers. I've been sent the 168 page Timeline of Relevant Events which they have filed, and I wish I had the technical ability to post it, for it is enlightening. In fact, as one reads it, it makes one's stomach churn. The way Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds set about stealing Baldoni's work and destroying his life is truly sickening. They should've read the Book of Esther, because they're about to share the fate of Haman the Agagite, who contructed a gibet with which to hang Mordechai, but ended up swinging from it himself.
I am hearing that both Lively and Reynolds are under medical supervision, she because she is close to cracking up now that things aren't going her way , and he because he too is feeling the strain. Have I been fed this information so that, in the act of repeating it, I would inadvertently obtain sympathy for her and help to let him off the hook? Possibly. But I'm repeating it nevertheless, because in my opinion never have two people more justly deserved the fate that awaits them, and if they need medical attention now, unless they're familiar with One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest, they have no idea the fate that awaits them. I say this as someone who has no skin in this game: I hadn't even heard of Blake Lively three weeks ago, nor of Justin Baldoni, and, though I'd vaguely heard of him, Ryan Reynolds is as significant to me as the slugs in Castle Goring's grounds. But, having had deeply manipulative people like Lively and Reynolds in my life, I know the damage they wreak, and feel it is my duty to do my bit to see that the innocent prevail. I am told that the couple have even mocked Baldoni because of his religion. They plainly have no idea that the Baha'i faith is characterised by empathy, sensitivity, truth, justice, respect for all people and all religions, with the objective of resolving differences through peaceable means wherever possible- as Baldoni has exemplified throughout this whole sorry mess.
I know a bit about the Baha'i faith because I had the good fortunate in 1981 to be introduced to it by the eminent Canadian artist Joyce Devlin, who painted my portrait in support of Erin Pizzey's Chiswick Refuge for Battered Women. The portrait now hangs in the State Dining Room of Castle Goring. The links between the practitioners of the Baha'i faith and their support for abused women has escaped everyone so far, but these links do exist, as I can personally attest to, and Lively and Reynolds, by mocking Baldoni's faith, have actually shored up his bona fides.
Before closing, I must also observe that the Timeline makes it clear that some of the emergent facts which are helpful to Baldoni came as a direct result of people on the internet pointing out pertinent facts which had escaped everyone. I gather that @kjerstiflaa has had some choice morsels to dish up, and that @CandaceOwens has been particularly helpful. Her followers have provided information that she has shared, in the process doing much to shine the bright light of exposure on the Machiavellian manoeuvrings of the ghastly Mr and Mrs Reynolds. Then of course there has been @MegynKellyShow and @danwootton, all of whom prove how wonderful Social Media is in helping to achieve justice for those who would otherwise be buried by the conventional system which Lively and Reynolds were misguided and out-of-date enough to think still has the power it once had, and which they deployed to bury Baldoni.
Since this has people talking about Hamlet (❤️), I'll share another of my favorite student interactions regarding this play that seems to bring up all our ghosts:
A student said he wanted to "go back in time and take Shakespeare's quill so he couldn't write anything. He doesn't speak my language."
I said, "Let's sit down and talk about it."
The student said he was frustrated by his inability to express exactly what was in him, that he could never write any papers or poems or stories he was happy with, that he could never "understand literature."
"Maybe you don't need to start by understanding it," I suggested. "Maybe it already understands you."
The student shook his head. "Nah. They're just words."
"Words, words, words," I said. Then I pointed to where Hamlet says this in frustration.
The student cracked a smile. Together, slowly, we read some more of Hamlet's words:
"I do not know
Why I yet live to say, 'This thing's to do'"
"I have that within which passes show"
"in my heart there was a kind of fighting
That would not let me sleep."
After about fifteen minutes of passing the text back and forth, reading passages aloud, the student looked up and said, "That...that's how I feel."
"Write about that," I said.
His paper, which earned an A+, began, "Shakespeare speaks my language."
"Seeing my work in the official game after making my own custom content for a long time is another level of excitement for me. The 10-year-old me that fell in love with this game wouldn’t believe it.”
