God of War was never a fluffy, cutesy take mythology. It has been a serious, heightened action take on mythology.

I don't think you really understand what fantasy settings actually are.

Just because a setting is fantasy doesn't mean it can have dinosaurs, typewriters and lazer beams.

Even fantasy stories have rules about what kinds of beings can or cannot exist and what is and is not possible.

The cute, pixie dust streaking, punning companions is something that appeals to the female psyche which needs that support to feel safe in tense situations.
