An exciting new review that we have published in Journal of Hepatology highlighting new treatment avenues for patients with autoimmune liver diseases!
Thank you to my co-authors @ScottPLand@drseanmorris@kayani1995@LiverImmunoreg1
Happy to share our work publish at @NEJM !!
This achievement represents a significant step forward in transplantation. Proud to be part of this! @MGHSurgery@mgh_transplant@LVRiella

Art history can be fun, especially when @HarryHill and Jack Dee are involved. I joined them for a podcast episode all about the art and life of Vincent van Gogh!

In time for Halloween, I've been handling some haunted art. Possessed dolls, paintings with terrifying backstories and creepy clowns are among the objects I've curated for 'House of Curses', opening Oct 31. Tickets here, if you dare https://t.co/AVZELgZnP5
Thanks @doctor_oxford for sharing this important message during #OrganDonationWeek.
Every donor has the potential to save nine lives. Have you registered? https://t.co/nMFScc0NjD
4. Liver transplant, plus standard-of-care chemotherapy, prolonged survival in patients with colorectal cancer and unresectable liver mets (vs. chemotherapy alone)
In the per protocol group (comparing only the patients who received the assigned treatments), 5 year survival was 9.3% for chemotherapy, and 73.3% for liver transplant + chemotherapy
Caveats:
It's a small trial (94 patients), with a select group of patients with strict criteria, and the availability of liver transplants may limit use in the real world - still, very impressive results

🥼 Scientists found that Ikzf1 associated with Foxp3 via its exon 5 (IkE5) and that IkE5-deficient #Treg cells highly expressed 🧬 genes that would otherwise be repressed by Foxp3 upon T cell receptor stimulation, including Ifng.

"We see the proportion of consultants who are academically qualified is going down, and the proportion of consultants that can do research is going down. It’s a big concern for UK faculties of medicine that it’s harder to get clinical academics" - @jarottingen@wellcometrust
Molecular cloning: a ubiquitous and essential molecular biology technique.
It's also the reason many scientists become superstitious, some equating cloning to witchcraft.
But why, and does it have to be this way?
Important @kidneycareuk report highlights the importance for @DHSCgovuk to champion equity of access to transplantation.
Too many unnecessary obstacles ⛔️ and variation of practice 🤷🏽 that creates a postcode lottery for people with kidney failure.

Excited to show our latest attempt at a clinically meaningful clinical cancer genome with rapid turn around (24 hours!) times using Oxford Nanopore sequencing technology for patients who need a rapid, whole genome assessment of their tumour and germline, offering them (1/n):
As the Zephaniah family have said, this exhibition "depicts the many faces of Benjamin: the activist, the poet and author, the actor, the humanitarian, the voice of the marginalised and disenfranchised, and family man". Please visit if you can! https://t.co/cYiOFKHRFE
We loved seeing representation from our @LiverImmunoreg1 lab at the #EASLcongress in Milan this year! Such a wide breadth of #Liver research that helped to make the event a resounding success 👏
Next stop - Amsterdam 2025! 🚀
@unibirm_MDS
Really exciting news this morning that my oncology colleague Dr Vicky Kunene @uhbtrust dosed the first patient in the BioNTech BNT-122 mRNA vaccine trial for personalised therapy in colorectal cancer - @UHBResearch was the first site in UK to do this:
