@isamadath it could also be because of how sick her character is there, to show what things look/seem like to her being sick, things they others may take for granted or just not pay attention to.
“hector said: i won’t tell her what you said. it doesn’t matter to me what you do. you can write her all you want. but you should know, we’lol only be here today. tomorrow we’ll be moving on.”. (362) do you think hector chose not to tell her in order to protect her? #smc118
“but hector thought he did care, and in a way that surprised him.” (386) this could’ve surprised him because maybe in the beginning he didn’t have a strong bond with june and didn’t think he would ever make one with her. #smc118
@poling_colin i do think june is to forgiving but only because she feels maybe she has to be. this could be because she has guilt because she thinks she wasn’t a good enough mother or because nicholas preys on june’s generosity which means he could get whatever he wants possibly.
“she asked him for a shot of morphine. he opened her kit & prepared the shot, unable to quell the thought doing the same for Sylvie, to numb and pleasure too.” (349) though this could’ve been painful to do, he did it anyway why? #smc118
@AlkireIngrid maybe because to others she wasn’t affected by it whereas when/if taking apart the nursery piece by piece she could feel however she needed to feel without pity or feeling “imperfect” #smc118
@sageleonardsmc maybe because with jim things may have felt easier and because he wasn’t “perfect” she could be her true “imperfect” self as opposed to being perfect inside and out. #smc118
“my whole life i cheated days. please give the rest of mine to someone else.” (245) it sounds like now june is maybe regretful of how she choose to live his life and the things she did and the way she treated people possibly. #smc118
can “surrendering” be related to the characters letting go or accepting things that are happening outside of their past whether it be past or present? #smc118
“you will realize i’m very greedy about life. it’s life or nothing.” (242) when he says this is he talking about his own and how he lives it or just the idea of life itself? #smc118
the scene on pg 223 when she talks about feeling while again and using drugs to find this feeling. is it possible that after a while working with missionaries did make her feel whole and over time that feeling faded? #smc118
@poling_colin i would say yes. this could and this could also be hector’s defense mechanism of keeping people at a distance to protect himself from more trauma. #smc118
with the way characters and their experiences are described, do you think this helps us get to know the characters more or do we just learn more about their tendencies/habits #smc118
why did hector always keep min at a distance? could it be because he felt if he got close to him someone would adopt him or something bad would happen to him? #smc118
“nobody tells tick nothin” (91) shows the dynamic of how even if someone doesn’t wanna do something a person who has money or is very repsected in the community can get “nobodies” to do things they may not want to do or keep certain things private. #smc118
