In this Arctic Cold Humans and Animals continue to struggle to survive and sadly, many have perished. What often gets forgotten are the many birds who, while flying, have crashed into buildings frozen from moisture while others who feed from the sidewalks sadly eat instead the massive amount of rock salt spread onto the sidewalks that have been poisoned by it. The salt being spread is poisoning every bird and mammal that walks across it!

Nancy & I recently rescued a house sparrow paralyzed in the street. We brought it in our home & the heat served as an incubator for 4 days. We named her "Woodstock" after the Charlie Brown character. Once she started to move, we brought her to The Wild Bird Fund Rehabilitation Center on Columbus Ave. They do amazing work treating injured and sick birds.

And don't forget to look for birds in distress during this inclement weather. Please provide bird seed and fresh water whenever possible.
