Fire season isn't over yet in Wisconsin! Still can get some Rx fire on the ground before the growing season really takes off.

While wildfire smoke from Canada looms over Wisconsin, there also arises opportunities to lay down good fire. These silvicultural burns will provide the environment oaks need to thrive and dominate these forests!

All I'm going to say is if it's a red flag warning day, it is a terrible day to conduct a Rx burn! Some people will be getting canned for it I would think.

I heard a lone howl closeby in the deep woods around noon today and the hairs on the back of my neck stood up. I think I could win in a fight with one wolf if I used a snowshoe as a shield and my cruising stick as a weapon. Thankfully didn't need to though.

@drdavecoyle Couldn't we consider deer an aggressive native that alters habitats with their food preferences. If anything, humans are the cause of deer overpopulation which in turn means we need to shoot more of them to keep populations in check.

Convert some of these corn fields back to the prairie they used to be and you will drastically improve the land. It would take time, but even the soil would recover.

So my grass-fed beef production is a net-negative CO2 system that improves soil, improves water, works with wildlife, and produces the most nutrient dense food most Americans eat.

Its not perfect, but it beats the hell out of corn growing.

@comsdivforestry @norahmoo They can be dispersed by winds, animals or just fall out of the cones.

@robfroese @emilydolhansky Us being in a pulp economy rotating aspen isn't the same management standard as supplying sawtimber for a housing market. Canada has been gradually decreasing their annual adjusted sustainable wood supply for the last 15 years. The comparison is more about PNW and BC though.

@robfroese @emilydolhansky Well to be fair, the Midwest isn't exactly hungry for Canadian pulp, since we can supply the demand locally. However, Canadian pulp still flows in because it can be cheaper. Some areas we are selling pulp at a buck a ton to get rid of it or it is sitting on the ground rotting.
