The CTU’s two-week strike ended yesterday. Like their 2012 walkout, it won major victories on pay and benefits — and it did so against a mayor, Lori Lightfoot, who campaigned on progressive promises only to immediately abandon them after taking office. https://t.co/gFRsJ1i9o5
1/ Let's talk about how every teacher in the system gave up their entire raise (6 days pay comes out to about 3% of our salary) so that students' lives might be better with a nurse and a social worker...
BREAKING: @CTULocal1 House of Delegates vote to suspend the strike, contingent on @chicagosmayor restoring with pay instructional days. Should be a no brainer for a mayor who values instructional time for Chicago’s students. #CTUSEIUstrike
This is important. The mayor and City Hall have said this is the best contract in the history of our union. We set the bar high, and won things no union has ever won in an employment contract. Is it perfect? Of course not. But it's better than our schools have ever had.
Never have we not had a return to work agreement. The mayor’s unwillingness is dangerous.
She has admitted, “There’s a lot of work that we could have done sooner but we didn’t start to do really until after the strike (started).” We’ve been at this for 10 months. She has not.
President Trump is now arriving at O’Hare. Let’s not forget the mayor has spent more time with the Trumps than she has in negotiations. #CTUSEIUstrike#putitinwriting#faircontractnow
None of us should be satisfied until educators in Chicago have everything they need to give all students the education they deserve. It is a moral failure to be satisfied with anything less. #CTUSEIUstrike#putitinwriting#faircontractnow https://t.co/jdzpjYWzGb
When you reduce this to dollars and cents, it shows little understanding of who educators are and what we do. No one is in this for money. Our fight is a civil rights issue. We want justice and equity for all children in Chicago. #CTUSEIUstrike#putitinwriting#faircontractnow
“Our members do not cross picket lines. Our members honor CTU and @SEIU73 picket lines. We stand with you. We’ll lose fighting alone. The bosses’ biggest fear is seeing us working together.” -Juan Campos from Teamsters Local 705 and proud #cps graduate✊🏿✊🏾✊🏽✊🏼✊🏻#1u
Honestly, every anti-CTU commenter needs to just own up to it.
"I see this strike as black and brown teachers and black and brown students literally taking money out of my white hands, and that thought enrages me b/c those aren't the people I care about."

The Chicago Teachers Union welcomes this letter from Illinois legislators to Mayor Lightfoot calling on her to meet our just staffing demands. Lori Lightfoot, get on the right foot. #FairContractNow
